Shalakany Proudly Hosts the 2025 Egyptian National Rounds of Jessup Competition. The 2024 Egyptian National Rounds of the prestigious Jessup Moot Court Competition were held at Shalakany's Office on February 21st and 22nd, 2025. The Jessup Moot Court Competition stands as the globe's largest moot court event, drawing participants from approximately 700 law schools across 100 nations and jurisdictions. Securing victory in the Egyptian National Rounds, "British University in Egypt – BUE" who will represent Egypt in the forthcoming International Rounds in Washington, DC. British University in Egypt clinched the best memorials awards for Applicant and Respondent, while the title of 1st best oralist was claimed by Farida Maklad from the German University in Cairo (GUC). Yassine Khoweiled from IDAI secured the 2nd best oralist position. The Shalakany team organizing the Jessup comprised of Adam Shalakany, Nada Hesham Hashem, Ragya Shoukry, Youssef Omar and Mohamed Nour. Shalakany and White & Case LLP will extend their support by sponsoring the victorious team's journey to represent Egypt at the Global Rounds of Jessup in April 2025 in Washington, DC. The 2025 Egyptian National Rounds of the Jessup Moot Court Competition were a resounding success, and Shalakany takes immense pride in its role as host. Congratulations to the triumphant BUE team, and may they continue their success in the international arena. We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to the distinguished judges who presided the Jessup rounds, and a special thanks to our final round judges Dr. Jason Beckett, Dr. Christopher Barker, and Mr. Thomas Lieby, whose expertise and dedication contributed immensely to the success of the competition. We extend our gratitude to THE LAW Magazine, for their unwavering support in making our moot competition a resounding success. We thank them for their support in capturing the essence of our competition through their on-ground photographer, ensuring our event reached a broad audience.

Shalakany is proud to announce that it acted as a local counsel for the lenders in the 150 MW expansion of the Red Sea Wind Energy project in Ras Ghareb, Egypt, which now totals 650 MW, making it the largest wind farm in Africa. This project marks a significant milestone in renewable energy development in the region.   Our team previously acted as local counsel for the lenders on the original 500 MW project and has now provided comprehensive legal support for the 150 MW expansion. The consortium of lenders includes the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), the Norinchukin Bank, Société Générale S.A., and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), under a Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI) cover.    The project is led by a consortium comprising ENGIE, Orascom Construction PLC, Toyota Tsusho Corporation, and Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation. The wind farm will generate clean energy for over a million homes and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 1.3 million tons annually.   Shalakany is honored to have contributed to both the original and expanded phases of this transformative project alongside our friends from MilbankLLP, reinforcing our commitment to supporting sustainable energy initiatives in Egypt.   The team that worked on this project includes Mariam Fahmy, Mostafa El Zeky, Youssef Omar, Mohamed Nour, Haythem Hamdy, and Malak Ahmed Sobhy.   We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the parties involved in this landmark achievement.
