Exciting Updates from the CCLEAR Project! 🌍 We are delighted to share the successful completion of the second cycle of the "Groundwater Resources Sustainable Management for Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience in Africa" training program. In collaboration with the Regional Training Center for Water Resources and Irrigation (RCTWS) and the Research Institute for Ground Water, this certificate course provided participants with in-depth knowledge of groundwater flow and transport, alongside insights into the impacts of climate change on water availability and quality. Participants engaged in exploring critical topics, including groundwater quality monitoring systems, artificial recharge, storage, recovery, and the environmental hydrology of arid and semi-arid regions. They also gained hands-on experience with computer modeling using MODFLOW and conducted field visits to various sites within the Groundwater Quality Monitoring Network and laboratories. The program concluded with a field visit to Huraymila National Park, showcasing practical applications of restoration and biodiversity conservation efforts. We Are Hiring! Job Title Research Assistant (Agriculture)   Job Purpose The Research Assistant will support various agricultural-related research activities across different applications such as Greenhouse experiments and field investigations. Support ongoing agricultural projects through planning, designing, and implementing scientific experiments. He/ She will be answerable to the CARES manager for Agriculture.   Duties and responsibilities 1.      Collect, analyze, and visualize data generated from scientific experiments under greenhouse or field projects. 2.      Document, report, and present key research findings and progress during biweekly research meetings. 3.      Generate high-quality scientific manuscripts through conducting research, drafting, and editing write-ups, in addition to supporting the review process. 4.      Facilitate the generation of compelling research grant proposals by conducting literature reviews, generating preliminary experimental results, as well as editing documents for accuracy and clarity. 5.      Perform other miscellaneous duties in support of various research activities, as the need arises.   Desired skills ·        Molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid extractions and PCR ·        Good computer skills in Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) ·        Use of any of the following statistical tools; SPSS, R, Python, or GraphPad ·        Excellent command and fluency in English ·        Excellent scientific writing skills ·        Flexibility and ability to work under pressure ·        Basic knowhow of laboratory equipment   Qualifications Interested candidates with the following set of qualifications are encouraged to apply: ·        Bachelor’s degree in agricultural sciences ·        A master’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, or Horticulture Experience ·        At least 3 years of relevant research experience is needed for this position ·        Proof of research publication knowledge and experience of at least 3 scientific publications. He/ She will be answerable to the CARES manager for Agriculture.   Duties and responsibilities 1.      Collect, analyze, and visualize data generated from scientific experiments. 2.      Plan, design, operate, and produce scientific manuscripts on artemia production 3.      Document, report, and present key research findings and progress during biweekly research meetings. 4.      Generate high-quality scientific manuscripts through conducting research, drafting, and editing write-ups, in addition to supporting the review process. 5.      Facilitate the generation of compelling research grant proposals by conducting literature reviews, generating preliminary experimental results, as well as editing documents for accuracy and clarity. 6.      Perform other miscellaneous duties in support of various research activities, as the need arises.   Desired skills ·        Molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid extractions, PCR, RT-qPCR, and enzymatic assays ·        Tissue sample, blood, and serum extraction from fish and shellfish (shrimp) ·        Excellent biocontrol practices in aquaculture production facilities ·        Knowledge of and experience in aquaponics, Biofloc technology, and Recirculating Aquaculture Systems ·        Knowledge of artemia production and other aquaculture feed formulations is an added advantage ·        Good computer skills in Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) ·        Use of any of the following statistical tools; SPSS, R, Python, or GraphPad ·        Excellent command and fluency in English ·        Excellent scientific writing skills ·        Flexibility and ability to work under pressure ·        Basic knowhow of laboratory equipment   Qualifications Interested candidates with the following set of qualifications are encouraged to apply: ·        A Master's degree in aquaculture, fisheries, marine biology, zoology, or any other related field Experience ·        At least 3 years of relevant research experience is needed for this position ·        Proof of research publication knowledge and experience of at least 3 scientific publications. 🌿🌍 Green Camp 2024: A Week of Learning, Action, and Impact! 🌍🌿 From October 13th to 19th, we embarked on an incredible journey with our USAID Scholars - برنامج المنح الجامعية at Green Camp! Focused on sustainability and climate change solutions, participants experienced a blend of classroom learning, field visits, and fieldwork that left a lasting impact. Key Moments from the Camp: - Workshops at AUC: Engaging sessions on climate change adaptation and mitigation, water conservation, renewable energy, and WEF nexus that laid the groundwork for the hands-on experiences to follow. ♻️ - Field Activities in Marsa Alam: From cleaning up coastal areas to participating in mangrove planting, participants turned knowledge into real action, contributing to the restoration of critical ecosystems. 🌳 - Team Collaboration: Scholars worked together to explore practical solutions to climate challenges while contributing to ongoing research and environmental conservation efforts. 🤝🏼 Together, we built connections, learned valuable skills, and took actionable steps towards a more sustainable future.
