Here's a detailed visual representation showing the significant amount of #organicwaste generated at each stage of consumption and production. The image clearly shows how much potential we have to make impactful changes in #wastemanagement. It’s high time we take action to regulate and optimize the use of organic waste, especially in industries like #BSF, where this waste could be turned into valuable products! What are your thoughts? #BSF #insect #aquaculture #pet #larvae #bsfprotein #bsfoil #waste #sustainability #fly #protein
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT? 🤔🌍 "I believe time will show that the only way to make BSF production truly economically and environmentally viable is by using post-consumer waste." ♻️🐛 I've heard this many times... #BSF #insect #aquaculture #pet #larvae #bsfprotein #bsfoil #waste #sustainability #fly #protein

Last month, the United Nations and their PAGE program (Partnership for Action of Green Economy) recognised us, BAMBOOK STUDIO _ Sustainable Architecture & Circular Economy Consultant, as a key player in leading the change to a #CircularEconomy and #LowCarbon Design in Indonesia. Never in my wildest dreams I would have thought that our humble effort and passion to improve things would be recognised by such an important institution. What an honor!! Ibu Rani and her team Dimas Andhika came to visit us in Lombok, not only to take a look at our Architecture #NetZero Portfolio (more in particular our Zero Carbon Xanadu Retreat Project) but also they were very interested in our pro-bono local sustainability Initiatives, such as the BSF Sengkol Organic Waste Conversion Facility and Circular Economy Learning Center (first of its kind in Nusa Tenggara Barat) and the Lombok Eco Flea Market, an idea to join all the “conscious” entrepreneurs into a community that empower local artisans that integrate eco-friendly practices. In November, we have been invited to present all of our “Green Action Initiatives and Vision” in a yet to be launched United Nations PAGE Program Conference in Jakarta. We will be there! Check what they had to say and stay tunned! https://lnkd.in/gBinSeUi

We're all for circular, natural solutions that improve livestock welfare. It's no surprise that insects are a significant part of chickens’ (and other animals’) natural diets. Recent EU legislation has made strides in recognizing this, particularly regarding the use of live insects in animal feed. EU law acknowledges various insect-based feed products, from live or treated larvae (dehydrated, freeze-dried) to insect meal and oil. These products offer numerous benefits, enhancing livestock health and welfare and contributing to the rapid growth of this market in several EU countries. However, some EU Member States interpreted regulations to prohibit live insects in animal feed. This misunderstanding was clarified by the European Commission’s PAFF Committee on 16 February 2024, confirming that live insects are permissible under EU law, except for ruminants. To make things clearer, IPIFF prepared a detailed Guide on Good Hygiene Practices that translates the EU requirements for the use of insects as animal feed into a practical, user-friendly guide. Page 25 of the Guide visually breaks down current legislation. Hats off to our friends at the #InsectSchool for their incredible research on the Black Soldier Fly's vision! Did you know that the adult Black Soldier Fly (BSF) boasts a remarkable visual system comprising both simple and compound eyes? Ocelli: These two simple eyes are essential for BSF's quick response to changes in light intensity. They help these flies navigate through obstacles and evade predators efficiently. Compound Eyes: The BSF's compound eyes are a marvel of nature, consisting of over 1000 small units called ommatidia. Each ommatidium contains six photosensitive parts known as rhabdomeres (R1-R6), positioned at the periphery. Rhabdomeres: While R1-R6 are specialized for motion detection with broad spectral sensitivity, R7 and R8, located at the center of the ommatidium, play a different role. Spectral Sensitivity: Photoreceptors R7 and R8 exhibit narrow spectral sensitivities, with R7 being most sensitive to UV light and R8 to blue or green light. This unique arrangement enables BSF to perceive the world through three primary channels: UV, blue, and green. The intricacies of the BSF's visual system highlight the fascinating adaptations that have evolved in these remarkable insects. Understanding their sensory mechanisms not only sheds light on their behavior but also offers insights into broader concepts of sensory processing in the natural world. #BlackSoldierFly #InsectVision #Nature

When farming Black Soldier Fly 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀! Optimizing conditions for Black Soldier Fly larvae is crucial for growth, protein yield, and egg production. Climate management plays a pivotal role in this. 🦟 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: Temperature matters greatly for larvae. Adult Black Soldier Flies' longevity hinges on it, influencing reproduction and protein levels. 🌡️ 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Black Soldier Fly larvae thrive in temperatures ranging from 25°C to 35°C. Within this range, both larvae and adult flies are most active, facilitating mating and optimal egg hatching. 🔄 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Too hot or too cold—either extreme disrupts the larvae's vital functions. High temperatures prompt larvae to abandon food sources in search of cooler spots, while low temperatures slow down their metabolism, stunting growth. To counter this, maintaining a stable temperature around 27°C is crucial. 🌬️ 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹: Achieving this ideal temperature requires precision. Specialized air conditioning systems come into play, providing the necessary climate regulation to sustain optimal conditions for Black Soldier Fly larvae. Successful farming relies on meticulous climate management. By keeping temperatures just right, we ensure healthier larvae and higher yields. #BlackSoldierFly #SustainableFarming #ClimateControl

BSF Larvae Growth with different practices: In their pursuit to optimize #BSFlarvae growth, researchers from Insect Engineers uncovered a crucial factor: the impact of feeding frequency. When fresh waste was provided every three days, sticking to a regular feeding routine, the larvae grew faster and larger. This underscores the importance of maintaining consistency in their meals. As they researched deeper, they discovered that BSF larvae actually prefer fresh food. When all their food is provided at once (batch feeding), it initiates a competition between the larvae and other microorganisms, leading to the degradation of nutrients over time. Consequently, continuous feeding ensures optimal sustenance, providing healthier larvae development. These discoveries are revolutionizing the feeding patterns of BSF larvae. By ensuring they are fed correctly, we're not just helping them grow, but also improving the #sustainability of the whole process. #BSFLarvae #SustainableFarming More info: https://lnkd.in/dmhi6m5A

Today talking about #nutrition! Did you know that #BSF larvae meal protein is a nutritional powerhouse? It's packed with all the essential amino acids, including lysine, methionine, and threonine—nutrients often lacking in plant-based proteins. Plus, it's super digestible, making it easy for the absorbtion. But here's the really cool part: BSF larvae #protein might also do wonders for the health! Studies suggest it could have #antioxidant, antihypertensive, and antidiabetic effects. Imagine little peptides in the gut fighting off inflammation and keeping your blood pressure and glucose levels in check! Exciting, right? While more research is needed to confirm these benefits, it's clear that BSF larvae protein has serious potential to boost both the nutrition and well-being. Let's keep exploring! #Nutrition #Health #BSFLarvae #Futurefood
