Alongside Puertos del Estado and with the support of the Cámara de Comercio del Campo de Gibraltar, we’ve shared the advantages of our extensive #connectivity, the latest improvements at the Border Control Post (PCF), and the best logistics solutions for perishable goods. With over 750,000 tons of refrigerated containerized cargo moving annually between #Algeciras and key trade partners like #CostaRica, #Peru, #Egypt, #Colombia, and #Ecuador, our port plays a vital role in fresh produce logistics. Additionally, the Strait of Gibraltar traffic continues to be a crucial link between Europe and Africa, facilitating the import and export of fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, berries, and avocados. Combined with structural issues in Southern Spain like underdeveloped #rail connections, these factors are impacting the port’s competitiveness. Exciting News to close the year: Expansion of the Border Control Post at the Port of Algeciras! Autoridad Portuaria Bahía de Algeciras - Port of Algeciras has announced a project to expand and modernize the #BorderControlPost (BCP), as the current facilities are operating at full capacity due to sustained growth in inspection demands. Key Features of the expansion: 🔹A new operations dock and expanded areas for inspecting #animal and #nonanimal products. 🔹Modern offices to centralize the activities of inspection agencies, including Foreign Health (#SanidadExterior), Plant Health (#SanidadVegetal), #SOIVRE, and Animal Health (#SanidadAnimal). 🔹Energy-efficient upgrades, enhanced safety measures, and compliance with the latest accessibility standards. Project Timeline: Phase 1: Two months for drafting the design. Phase 2: Eighteen months for construction, followed by three months for certification. Algeciras Stands Out in 2024 Rankings Autoridad Portuaria Bahía de Algeciras - Port of Algeciras has secured its position as a leader in global maritime performance, appearing in three key rankings this year: 💪 Most Efficient Port in Europe In June, Algeciras was recognized as the most efficient port in Europe and ranked 10th globally in the 2023 Container Port Performance Index by The World Bank and S&P Global, analyzing over 400 ports worldwide. 🏗️ Top 5 in Container Traffic in Europe In December, #Algeciras climbed to 5th place among Europe’s top container ports, as per Port Economics, with a 0.9% increase in transshipment volumes in the first three quarters of the year despite competitive pressures. 🌍 Top 5 Connectivity in Europe And also now, we end 2024 as the 5th most connected port in Europe, according to the quarterly UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Port Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (PLSCI), with 551.79 points, reentering the top 30 global ports and standing out as the port with the highest maritime connectivity in the Strait of Gibraltar. 🌏 #AlgecirasPort Delegation Strengthens Ties with Manila 🌏 This week, Algeciras Port Community COMPORT delegation led by Autoridad Portuaria Bahía de Algeciras - Port of Algeciras, began its trade mission in the #Philippines, visiting the Philippine Ports Authority and touring ICTSI’s Manila International Container Terminal. This week’s focus is on deepening connections and exploring collaboration with Manila’s maritime community. The delegation, featuring companies like Pérez y Cía. Group, BMT Repairs, Bufete Díaz y Asociados S.C.P., Crosscomar, Elcome International LLC, Incargo Andalucia Sur S.L., Next Maritime, Peninsula, Sandvik Marine Electronics SL, Scamp Marine, Seapoole Marine Services, and ZENER MARINE ELEVATOR SERVICES, will present at the Spanish Ambassador’s Residence. From Algeciras Port Community COMPORT we are thrilled to congratulate Mr. Gerardo Landaluce, Chairman of Autoridad Portuaria Bahía de Algeciras - Port of Algeciras since 2019, on his election as Vice Chair of the ESPO (European Sea Ports Organisation)! This appointment is a #landmark achievement for the Port of Algeciras, giving our port more #visibility and placing #Spain and #AlgecirasBay region at the forefront of one of the most prestigious and influential organizations in the maritime sector. #ESPO, established in 1993, represents the interests of European ports, fostering unity and sustainability across the industry. 📢 #COMPORT: Renewed leadership and solidarity with the Valencian Community 🌊 We’re honored to announce that Jose Tejedor has been re-elected as President of Algeciras Port Community COMPORT during this week's Extraordinary General Assembly at Cámara de Comercio del Campo de Gibraltar. Tejedor and his renewed team are dedicated to fostering collaboration within the port community, advancing the development of Autoridad Portuaria Bahía de Algeciras - Port of Algeciras, and strengthening its international presence. To close out 2024, COMPORT will participate in commercial missions to #Manila, #Istanbul, and #Medellín, consolidating Algeciras’ position in key international markets. In addition, the newly appointed Board wishes to express its deepest condolences following the recent tragedy caused by the severe DANA storm in the #ValencianCommunity. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims, the residents of the region, and the #Valencia port community. #Algeciras shares a deep bond with Valencia, reflected in the many Valencian-origin citizens in our city, and stands in solidarity with all those affected during this difficult time. 🙏

#COMPORT: A Key Presence at Fruit Attraction 2024 🍍🍊🍌🥑🚢 Autoridad Portuaria Bahía de Algeciras - Port of Algeciras, along with the member companies of the Algeciras Port Community COMPORT, made a remarkable impact at Fruit Attraction 2024 in Madrid this week. This event continues to be a key meeting point for our #members with shipping lines and clients, reinforcing #Algeciras' position as a leader in maritime logistics for perishable goods. This year’s event had record participation, with over 30 Algeciras-based companies presenting top solutions for efficiently moving perishable goods to market. One of the highlights of our participation was the launch of the new #BorderControlPost (BCP) system 🛂, introduced as a pilot project in Algeciras on October 1st 2024. This new system simplifies #borderinspections by unifying processes that were previously handled separately by different Ministries. This improvement, the result of years of collaboration with key Ministries and the involvement of many port community members, will enhance the efficiency of #veterinary and #phytosanitary checks, making the trade of perishable goods smoother. With a strong presence at Pavilion 4 within Puertos del Estado stand, our delegation had a busy and successful week🌍, reinforcing our role as a key player in #refrigerated cargo logistics. The Port of Algeciras handles over 750,000 tons of refrigerated containerized cargo annually. Its #terminals have over 5,500 reefer connections monitored 24/7 and advanced #warehouses that can store up to 30,000 pallets at controlled temperatures between -22°C and +15°C. New specialized facilities for handling perishable goods will soon be added to further enhance its capabilities.
