📢 Project update on waste valorisation! The BBTWINS project has made key developments in waste processing and valorisation technologies, supporting a more sustainable, circular economy. 🔑 “We have made significant progress in producing high-purity keratin and collagen, essential compounds used in cosmetics and other industries. Through advanced techniques, the project successfully extracted keratin from pig hair with a purity rate of over 94%, making it suitable for various commercial applications.”, said André Ribeiro Senior Researcher at CVR - Centro para a Valorização de Resíduos. Project results show the potential to produce enough biogas to power thousands of homes each year, showing strong promise as a cleaner energy source and supporting the EU’s ambition to ensuring energy security and accelerating the energy transition. By 2019 we were already simulating food processes in digital environments. We had replicated high temperature cooking and the effect on different vegetables. In parallel we had developed NIR cameras capable of detecting #food fraud powered by #AI. Then, in 2020, confinement gave us all plenty of time to time outside the lab which sparked the idea of bringing #digitaltwins, artificial vision, #blockchain and logistic models together into one single platform for the food industry BBTWINS. We wanted to create one single point of interaction with the user, so that the multiple interfaces behind wouldn’t be visible, nor the interaction between them. The ultimate digital tool in the cloud for food industries to benefit from digital and green transition technologies. At the end of the day costs need to be as low as possible for prices to be affordable for consumers and still leave profits for businesses. BBTWINS aims to boost efficiency, give transparency to consumers and maintain high product quality standards.

Last week at Eatex Future Days, our partner CNTA presented the BBTWINS project and showcased its pioneering ham drying model. 🎉🎉 Synergy Days 2024 was one for the books!   Our Barcelona edition was fully aligned with its theme: 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀.   The event successfully brought together 40 European research projects and European Digital Innovation Hubs, with 4️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ participants from the agri-food sector, all committed to driving its digital transformation. 💻🚜🥕   During the event, we were continuously inspired by the transformative work carried out by the projects and EDIHs showcased over the two days. From the interactive workshops to the pitches and exhibition- your work was the core of the event. 👏🏻   🎤 Meanwhile, the plenary sessions dived into key topics related to the agri-food sector, reflecting its diversity. We got insights from researchers, EU policymakers, public administration, European food and agriculture associations, SMEs, and startups.   We are grateful to all the European projects, EDIHs, participants, speakers, and partners who made this event an incredible success.
