Expansion of our maltings in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 We’re thrilled to announce expansions across all our Scottish operations. Increasing Production Capacity: 🔹 +40kMT at Buckie maltings 🔹 +15kMT at Glenesk maltings This investment will support local distilling demand for high-quality malt, with expansions operational in Q1 2026 using the 2025 barley harvest. ♨️ Discover the first large-scale heat pump project of Boortmalt. This heat pump, located on our site in Athy, is one of the largest in the industry. It has reduced one of the malting plant's carbon footprint by 70%, equivalent to the yearly gas usage of 5,500 families. 🔄 But how does the heat pump work? The heat pump works circularly. Our malting process waste heat is captured and then sent to a heat pump system, which is fed by green electricity. Then, the heat pump produces high-temperature heat that is valorised in our process. This highly efficient in-house designed solution has been patented & allows us to produce decarbonised malt at our malting plant in Athy. 🇮🇪 Boortmalt Athy's plant has entered into a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) of 15 years to offtake all the volume generated by the 13,500 solar panels from the newly built Davidstown Solar Farm. This agreement is facilitated by Boortmalt's energy supplier Flogas Ireland. But what does this program actually consist of? We understood that sourcing regenerative farmed barley was essential for delivering low-carbon malt to our clients. With support from Soil Capital, we established a program to quantify and verify emissions reductions achieved by farmers supplying barley to us through Axereal, following ISO standard 14064. Thanks to this program, Axereal was able to produce 10.000 tons of low-carbon regenerative barley in crop year 2023* and 20.000 tons in crop year 2024.
