Removing CO2 from air using existing infrastructure
Sobre nosotros
Reinventing infrastructure into readily scalable carbon removal solutions Despite reduction and other negative emissions technologies, one needs engineered removals such as Direct Air Capture (capturing CO2 from air) to reach Net Zero and undo past emissions. We envision a world where DAC technology seamlessly integrates with existing cooling towers, harnessing industrial infrastructure and waste heat to capture and remove CO2 directly from the atmosphere. This vision is driven by our belief that sustainability doesn’t have to mean starting from scratch. Instead, it can be achieved by enhancing and repurposing assets we already have. Learning fast and deploying smartly By integrating DAC with cooling towers, waste heat systems, and other existing industrial infrastructure, Captur can deploy faster and ramp up DAC capacity at a much lower cost. Fast-tracking this innovation by learning quickly across shorter development cycles is critical in ensuring a future where net zero is not just a goal but a reality.

Ever wonder how industrial facilities keep their cool during these hot summer days? Enter the unsung heroes: 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀! These incredible structures are masters of heat management, ensuring everything runs smoothly through the simple yet effective process of evaporation. Here's a quick rundown of how they work: 🔄 𝗛𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 & 𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Hot water from industrial processes is pumped into the cooling tower. The water is sprayed over fill material, increasing surface area, while air is drawn through the tower. ❄️𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: As the water flows over the fill and meets the air, a small portion of it evaporates. This evaporation process absorbs heat from the remaining water, effectively lowering its temperature. The cooled water collects in a basin at the bottom of the tower and is then recirculated back into the industrial process, ready to absorb more heat. 𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁! 💨 The visual plume often seen rising from cooling towers is not smoke but water vapour. It’s a sign of the cooling process in action, efficiently managing heat to keep industrial processes humming along. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿? Because efficient cooling is crucial for maintaining optimal operating conditions and conserving water. Next time you see a cooling tower, give it a nod of appreciation – it's working hard to keep the industrial world turning! Moreover, the large volumes of air that move through cooling towers present a unique opportunity to capture ambient CO2 and further integrate #directaircapture, an approach that is core to Captur Tower 💧 At Captur Tower, we use airflow created by large cooling tower fans and harness heat that would otherwise be wasted to drastically reduce #directaircapture operating costs, making this promising technology viable and scalable! 📣 🇪🇺 Calling for tech-openness in the CRCF 🇪🇺 📣 📅 Today, European negotiators meet for the next #Trilogue of the Carbon Removal Certification Framework (#CRCF) - potentially the most important piece of carbon dioxide removal (#CDR) legislation in the world right now. 💡 Only an approach open to all CDR technologies will enable Europe to achieve its #netzero target. ❗ At present, there are positions held by numerous negotiators that would de facto exclude a large amount of promising CDR approaches. 🔊 For this reason, we need to make our voices heard - louder than ever. 💪 An astounding 350 companies - including Captur Tower - have signed a public letter calling for tech-openness in the CRCF, including the specific changes we need. The signatories span the entire CDR industry (and beyond), from startups to large multinationals. 🤝 Action now can have an outsized impact. Help us spread the word and make sure that negotiators are crystal clear on the position of the CDR industry. 📜 Link to the letter: https://lnkd.in/gTFn2zdA

🌍 Avoidance vs Removal: What's the difference? Both carbon avoidance and carbon removal get you credits but represent two fundamentally distinct strategies in tackling the climate crisis. 🔄 Carbon Avoidance: The balancing act. We try to make up for CO2 emissions we produce by investing in projects elsewhere that can either prevent or reduce an equivalent amount of CO2. By compensating for our emissions through credits or certificates linked to activities such as renewable energy and avoiding deforestation, we take responsibility to be climate neutral. It’s like a give-and-take for the planet. 🌱 Carbon Removal: The proactive approach. Imagine scrubbing CO2 from the air – that’s what carbon removal does! By actively extracting and reducing existing CO2 from the atmosphere, technologies such as direct air capture, afforestation, and enhanced weathering aim to decrease overall atmospheric carbon concentrations. Why Carbon Removal Technologies are important: While avoidance offsets can help in curbing emissions now and in the future, they are not enough – sometimes they can be an excuse for avoiding real emission reductions. In contrast, carbon removal actively decreases the carbon that is already out there, critical in reversing the damage we’ve already done and achieving our net-zero targets fast. At Captur, we focus on carbon removal and aim to remove excess amounts of CO2 in the air through an innovative approach to Direct Air Capture (DAC).
