Connecting women+ in tech with recruiters! 🔄💼 Last Tuesday, the Canòdrom - Ateneu d'Innovació Digital i Democràtica was the setting for an exciting speed-dating event, offering participants the chance to pitch themselves in short interviews to recruiters from 6 top tech companies in Barcelona! We had an amazing turn-out, with 48 participants, 10 recruiters and 96 interviews in total! Each participant had 2 interviews, each lasting 9 minutes, and they got the chance to present their CVs, highlight their talents, and explore potential career paths in the tech industry. 💻✨ Events like these help us reach our goal of bridging the gender gap in tech together, so thank you to everyone who participated and made it possible! A heartfelt thank you to our amazing partners, AllWomen and Fundación Esplai - ICT Many thanks also go to the 6 companies who made this event successful: Dynatrace Kenos Technology, Oxigent Technologies Ómada Interactiva, Icalia Solutions and Capgemini and their recruiters among which: Laia López Mérida , Maite Andreu Miralles , Oliwia Radłowska . We want to empower women+ regardless of experience or background to take part and thrive in the tech industry.
Sobre nosotros
The CodeWomen project of Open Cultural Center started mid 2020 to address the difficult position of migrant and refugee women to work in the male tech world. The goal was to support and encourage women students during the OCC MigraCode bootcamp, to work towards their successful graduation as Junior Web Developer. The first CodeWomen meetings had six participants on average. Since mid 2021 CodeWomen has been inviting tech women outside of MigraCode to join. It has grown into a large community led by a Project Manager with a team of four volunteers and an intern. CodeWomen has become a tech community in BCN that connects around 800 women+ with 60 nationalities. They are students, self-learners, experienced developers, UX/UI designers, etc. The CodeWomen LinkedIn page has over 2,800 followers, and around 75% are tech women+ in the Greater Barcelona area. CodeWomen is an empowering and supportive community for women(+), by women. It provides personal tech and career support in regular meetings. In addition, CodeWomen offers its members a safe environment to share their plans, ambitions and questions with each other. By building this community, CodeWomen stimulates both professional and personal growth. It is about learning, encouragement and support. CodeWomen is a unique place for women(+) career changers to learn and get support. It provides opportunity for networking and meeting new people, and getting career advice from experienced women developers. CodeWomen organises three events each month: - a Learning & Development event with a speaker or workshop, to increase knowledge and practical skills related to tech topics and career aspects; - a hands-on Coding with Coaches session, with women developers who help and coach the participants; - an Open Coding Night where participants can work on their own projects or homework, get help from each other, or just hang out, enjoy food & drinks, and get to know other women+ who are students/graduates/professionals in tech.

Did you know that only 1 out of 3 women report having a mentor in their careers? 🤨 Despite its proven impact on career #growth, women still struggle to find a mentor who can support them throughout their #career. At our “Making Mentorship Work For You” workshop led by the inspiring Vanessa Yuen, participants explored the critical role #mentorship plays in their careers. The session offered important insights into mentorship strategies, including how to identify the right mentors for their goals and build a strong personal #supportnetwork. The evening was filled with practical tips and inspiring discussions 💫 A heartfelt thank you to Vanessa Yuen for an impactful workshop on mentorship, and to Colt Technology Services for hosting us 🙏 We can’t wait to see participants grow their careers and networks! 🚀

🙏 A sincere thank you to the fantastic Colt volunteers for their time and dedication at our recent Employability+ Mock Interview Session at the Colt Technology Services offices in Barcelona! We were excited to have 18 dedicated volunteers from Colt’s HR team in Europe working closely with 19 talented students from our MigraCode Barcelona and CodeWomen+ tech education programs, who are actively looking to enhance their job-seeking skills. Representing 10 different countries, the group included 13 women+ and 6 men, bringing diverse perspectives and backgrounds to the session, which created a rich learning environment. This hands-on workshop provided them with invaluable opportunities to practice real-world interview scenarios and refine their approach to mastering interviews. 🤲 🏅 A special thanks to Laura Balaguer and Dóra Kántor for leading such an insightful workshop on interview techniques, cover letter and CV creation from a recruiter’s perspective. Their expertise and guidance shed light on the nuances of presenting oneself effectively, and they brilliantly highlighted key cultural differences students may encounter in the local job market. The workshop sparked great interest among the students, who engaged with numerous questions and meaningful discussions. This invaluable context has empowered participants to approach their job search with greater awareness and confidence. 🌏 We continued with two rounds of 1-on-1 mock interviews, allowing students to apply their new skills in a supportive environment. The activity was so engaging that even the coffee break flew by as everyone was fully immersed in learning! ☕ 💼 The session was wrapped up by John Ambrose, who not only emphasized the importance of body language in interviews but also left us with a powerful reminder: "You will never get the job you don’t apply for." 🙌 ✨ Then Aleksandra Mrozek added, “The interview is your chance to make your mark,” reminding everyone that nerves are natural—hiring managers often feel the same way, hoping for a successful interview. 👌 Finally, as one of the students noted, a key takeaway from the session was the importance of preparing relevant examples that highlight your skills and experiences during interviews. Being ready to showcase what you bring to the table is essential for success! 💪 🌟 Thank you again Anika Villalonga and Marta Trzaska for coordinating and making this amazing session possible, and thank you to the Colt volunteers for your incredible support and dedication to empowering these future professionals. Your expertise and commitment are making a real difference! #ThankYou #Colt #EmployabilityPlus #HRVolunteers #MockInterviews #MigraCode #CodeWomen #LanguageLab #CareerDevelopment #FutureReady #VolunteersMakeADifference #JobSearchSkills #CoverLetters #CVWriting #BodyLanguageInInterviews #YouMiss100OfTheShotsYouDontTake #KeyTakeaways #InterviewPrep
