89% of health is shaped outside the doctor’s office, in the environments where we live and move. Yet, health is often overlooked in urban planning. The Healthy Cities Generator (HCG) is changing that by integrating health and economic insights into city design. 🔬 Since 2017, the HCG has used real-world data to assess the impact of urban plans on physical, mental, and environmental health. Recently, the tool’s capabilities were expanded through a project funded by EIT Urban Mobility, enabling a better design, development, testing, and marketing of a digital tool easily accessible to cities. ↔️ In Bradford, UK, the tool found that urban greening could save €700 per person annually, with the investment paying for itself in just two years. ↔️ In Cascais, Portugal, the tool projected €400 in annual savings per resident from pedestrian-friendly spaces, achieving a return on investment in 26 months. 💬 Want to explore more innovations at the intersection of mobility, environment, and health? Amber De La Haye, lead of the Healthy Cities Lab, will be joining us in our webinar Mobility Talks today. 💡 #DidYouKnow A cigarette company can have a high Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) score while contributing to negative health impacts. Shocking, right? This is where the distinction between ESG and impact investing becomes crucial: ✅ ESG is about avoiding harm—reducing risks like fines or reputational damage. ✅ Impact investing is about creating measurable change—actively funding solutions that drive meaningful change for both people and the planet. At EIT Urban Mobility, we’ve embraced impact investing to support startups that have a positive impact, with results equal to: 🌍 10,027 tonnes of CO2 emissions reduced. 👷♀️1,070 jobs created. 💚 242 life years gained from healthier mobility. Read more about the differences between ESG and impact investing in our new article of the series ‘Investing in impact’ 👇 Let us know your thoughts in the comments! #UrbanMobility #ImpactInvesting #Funding #SustainableTransport #ESG EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology
