The Makers-in-Residency Program, part of the mAkE project, is breaking new ground by connecting makers from Africa and Europe. This program provided a unique opportunity for African and European makers to collaborate, exchange ideas, and work together on innovative prototypes that push the boundaries of technology. In 2024, four African makers traveled to four European cities to experience the vibrant makerspace culture firsthand. These makers gained access to state-of-the-art tools, expert knowledge, and resources that may be out of reach in their home countries. By fostering these valuable exchanges, the program strengthens open-source projects, promotes innovation, and creates lasting partnerships between continents. 📢 Last September 26th, I had the honor of participating in the opening ceremony of the Academic School year at the Professional Conservatory of Music in my city, Badalona. The event has been jointly organized by the Center for Pedagogical Resources of Badalona (CRP), Departament d'Educació i Formació Professional ( Generalitat de Catalunya ) and the Education Service of Ajuntament de Badalona. I had the pleasure of conversing with the great Begoña Román, philosopher, professor and researcher at the Universitat de Barcelona, at the "Dialogue for an artificial intelligence (AI) at the service of Education". During the conversation we discussed key aspects of AI such as the ethical challenges we must keep in mind when using it, how educational communities can deal with them, or what good practices are being implemented in K-12 schools. Is AI neutral? Can we make ethical and responsible use at school? How can we detect biases in Generative AI? Will there be robots in the classroom accompanying the students? These are some of the questions that arose during the conversation. The dialogue, fluid and enriching, was witnessed by a large number of attendees at the event, mainly representatives of the city's educational community such as directors, teachers and administrative officials. Finally, many thanks to the attendees, to Núria Galceran, director of the CRP for thinking of me and to Begoña for her generosity and wisdom 🙌 .
