A great recognition of the FLORA project work for the past 18 months: the multi-sensor & self-powered ocean station will soon gather data on bird and biodiversity, which is critical to Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) and Environmental Impact Assessment of offshore wind farms. 🏆 The FLORA project won the Atlantic Project Awards 2024 in the Marine Renewable Energy category! This prestigious recognition was presented during the 11th Atlantic Stakeholder Platform Conference held in Bordeaux on November 22, 2024. Organised by the Atlantic Steering Committee and the European Commission, these awards celebrate outstanding achievements, good practices and great partnership collaboration by projects that contribute to the Atlantic Strategy. This award is a reflection of the hard work and collaboration of everyone involved in FLORA. Thank you to all our partners, Wedge Global, daretech, Catana group Portugal, Laminak Energy & elittoral and supporters who have made this journey possible! 🚀 We’re almost there! The final major subsystem of FLORA, the heave plate, is complete! This major component enhances hydrodynamic stability and optimizes energy capture in the Wave Energy Converter. 🌊 Key roles of the heave plate: > Increased stability by boosting resistance to vertical motion, keeping the system steady > Reduce damping effects by limitating oscillations, stabilizing energy extraction and environmental data collection > Optimized energy capture by tuning the system’s natural frequency to maximize wave energy absorption. In summary, the heave plate is vital for ensuring FLORA’s platform efficiency and stability across diverse sea conditions. 🌊 The FLORA project is part of the Atlantic maritime strategy that aims to support the sustainable development of blue economy in the EU countries bordering the Atlantic. It is implemented via the Atlantic action plan, which covers France, Ireland, Portugal and Spain, where the FLORA project partners come from! > Wedge Global & elittoral: Spain > Catana group Portugal: Portugal > daretech: Ireland > Laminak Energy: France 🍃 The collaboration and efforts from the partners will soon allow the deployment of the FLORA ocean station in the Canary Islands, Spain.
