During the conference, Antoine highlighted key 2025 travel trends, including rising demand for long-haul travel beyond Europe and the US, a growing preference for five-star experiences (with 47% of Gen Z splurging on luxury), and increased interest in winter activities such as the Northern Lights and ski holidays. In this week’s #TravelTrendTuesdays, we explore how targeted marketing can unlock off-season growth. In the Philippines, insights reveal substantial untapped potential in nearby markets like South Korea, which accounted for 1.4 million overnights in competing destinations such as Thailand and Vietnam in the off-peak season. By targeting these travellers with tailored campaigns, the Philippines could benefit from more than 110 thousand extra overnight stays between February and July alone. Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei present additional opportunities, with potential increases of +59k and +34k overnight stays, respectively. By focusing resources on high-potential source markets, the Philippines could redefine its off-season tourism strategy and maximize their marketing ROI. Yesterday, our Director of Intelligence & Marketing, Olivier Ponti, had the incredible opportunity to present at the first-ever Tourism Day during COP29 Azerbaijan in Baku! His insightful presentation focused on the transformative journey from tourism measurement to destination management—showcasing how Destination Management Organizations can harness data to foster sustainable tourism. One key insight he shared was that travel demand continues to grow, with a remarkable +13% increase in international arrivals from January to October 2024 compared to 2023. This trend underscores the critical need for innovative and sustainable solutions to manage tourism effectively. We’re honoured to have been part of such a historic event and extend our heartfelt thanks to the Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB) (special mention to Dr. Gunay Bayramova) and UN Tourism for inviting us to contribute to this global discussion. This opportunity reflects the growing importance of data-driven insights in shaping the future of travel and tourism. #ForwardKeys #COP29 #TourismDay #Baku #AzerbaijanTourismBoard #UNTourism #FosterSustainableTourism #PredictingTravellersImpact

#TravelTrendTuesdays The Importance of Data for Balancing Tourism Flows. Balancing tourism flows requires actionable data. ForwardKeys’ Seasonality Index tracks how unbalanced tourism is over a year, offering a clear picture of fluctuations in visitor arrivals. For example, 𝗕𝗮𝗸𝘂 has a high seasonality index of 𝟭𝟯𝟳 indicating significant peaks and troughs compared to neighboring destinations like Tbilisi (99) and Almaty (64). There is potential to attract up to 𝟭𝟯 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗱 more passengers from the 𝗨𝗔𝗘 to Baku during the low-season, spreading arrivals more evenly throughout the year. Data-driven strategies like these are crucial for sustainable tourism growth. By learning from competitors and targeting the right source markets, Baku can reshape its seasonality strategy for sustainable growth.
