  • In the wind turbine industry and beyond, cranes are facing increasing challenges. With taller towers and larger generators, cranes need longer, lighter booms for greater reach and efficiency. Replacing steel wire as the primary material for tension elements of crane rigging has greatly reduced boom weight and increased load lifting capacity and reach. Our High Performance Fibre Pendants (HPFP) are also advancing crane capacity and meeting these evolving challenges. Manufactured using our endless fibre winding syntheticS technology and multiC carbon fibre cables (depending on application), our HPFPs are designed for fatigue resistance, lightweight strength, and robust safety - making them perfect for a variety of applications. • The ACCIONA footbridge in Cuenca, Spain utilises our versatile flexC belt and our multiC cables.      flexC combines high performance fibres such as carbon fibre with a uniquely flexible thermoset resin matrix. Used in civil engineering to strengthen concrete and steel structures, it can also be quickly deployed in emergency situations to shore up compromised structures.     Carbon Fibre is increasingly employed as post-tension or structural cables in civil engineering, with proven characteristics in a range of challenging environments, fantastic lifespan, and the opportunity to save on project costs. Lightweight and fatigue-resistant, they can be handled easily onsite without added expense and risks to project deadlines that are associated with heavy lifting equipment.      #FutureFibres #JECworld #ACCIONA #CivilEngineering #Bridge #FOWT JEC Group #Composites #RenewableEnergy #LiftingEquipment #Aerospace

Minesto Dragon subsea kites utilise both our syntheticS and multiC cables.      syntheticS - our flagship dry wound cables - anchor the kites to the sea-bed as they produce energy from tidal streams and ocean currents.     Our dry wound technology is also pushing the development of more and more efficient mooring for other renewable energy technologies.      In floating offshore wind, with wind turbines moving further offshore, bottom-fixed solutions are not viable in increasingly deep water. Utilising Tension Leg platforms requires mooring lines under constant tension to stabilise the platform (and therefore the turbine) in waves. With huge fatigue cycles, long working life and low stretch in tough environmental conditions, our synthetic fibres have ideal characteristics.      Our endless winding process converts fibres like aramids and HMPE into syntheticS dry wound cables.      Meet the experts from Future Fibres in Booth E99, Hall 6 at JEC Group - JEC World to learn more!      #FutureFibres #JECworld #Minesto #FOWT JEC Group #Composites #RenewableEnergy #LiftingEquipment #CivilEngineering #Aerospace

  • The Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) is progressing toward becoming the most powerful ground-based gamma-ray observatory, with arrays under construction in Chile's Paranal Observatory and La Palma, Spain. The CTAO will feature three telescope types for a wide energy range. Large-Sized Telescopes (LSTs), medium (MSTs) and small (SSTs). The LST’s with 23-meter diameters, are designed for low-energy gamma rays. The first LST (LST-1) was inaugurated in 2018 in La Palma and has collected 800 hours of data despite challenges like COVID-19 and volcanic activity. Construction of additional LSTs (LST-2, LST-3, LST-4) is ongoing. Future Fibres manufactured intermediate modulus multistrand structural carbon cables. Coiled for transport to remote mountain-top locations, these cables feature: ✅ Low mass and very low CTE for precision positioning. ✅ Exceptional durability in extreme conditions: high winds, UV, ice, and salt. The CTAO will be an open facility for the astrophysics community, offering broad scientific potential. It will explore the role of relativistic cosmic particles, search for dark matter, study high-energy particles' influence on cosmic systems, and investigate extreme events in the high-energy universe. From black holes' vicinity to vast cosmic voids, the CTAO could uncover new physics beyond the standard model. Though Earth's atmosphere blocks gamma rays, their interaction produces high-energy particles emitting Cherenkov radiation—a blue flash captured by the CTAO's mirrors and cameras. This enables tracing gamma rays back to their cosmic origins, addressing key astrophysical mysteries. With the ability to detect gamma rays from tens of GeV to hundreds of TeV, the CTAO will study transient gamma-ray events and push astronomy into unexplored energy ranges, offering a revolutionary view of the sky. 📸 CTAO LST collaboration #Telescope #Composites #GammaRayAstronomy #CherenkovTelescope #HighEnergyPhysics #PrecisionEngineering

As practice racing showed, Sydney is set for an action-packed weekend as SailGP returns for its third event of the season. With strong winds expected, the fleet will be pushed to the limit, making for an exciting showdown in the Harbour City. The Aussies will aim to defend their home waters, having won three of the past five Sydney events. Fresh off their Auckland victory, they’ve mastered the new T-Foils and will be tough to beat. But this year’s competition is fierce—France SailGP Team finally returns to the start line and has a strong track record in windy conditions, including a past win in Sydney, in Season 3. Red Bull Italy is also gaining attention after securing three podium finishes in Auckland, proving they can challenge the best. And with Team USA eager to bounce back from a disappointing result in New Zealand, the fight for the title is only getting tighter. With the leaderboard tightening, the Brits and Kiwis will have to fight hard to stay on top! 🏆 #SailGP #SydneySailGP #HighPerformance #InnovationInAction #Sailing #Yachting
