🌍 Kickoff of the Soteria Climate Communities of Practice (CoP) Meeting! 🌍 🌲 We officially launched the Soteria Climate Communities of Practice (CoP) series, bringing together regions, local authorities, and experts to share knowledge and collaborate on climate adaptation and risk assessment strategies. 🌲 1st session Communities of Practice (CoP) How do regions carry out risk and vulnerability assessments, and what data is missing or necessary? 🗣️ We kicked off with Kristian Stenerud Skeie (SINTEF), who presented the ongoing work from WP2 on climate-related and loss data availability and quality. He provided valuable insights into the types of data collected by insurance, reinsurance, and damage assessment teams, and emphasized the importance of understanding the granularity of data required for accurate risk modeling. 🗣️ Next, Marina Torres de Fuentes (Generalitat Valenciana) shared the methodologies, tools, and data used in the Valencian region for risk and vulnerability assessments, highlighting the importance of cross-department collaboration in gathering and analyzing data. 🗣️ Finally, Thanasis Sfetsos (DEMOKRITOS) addressed the growing risks of heatwaves in West Athens, a priority hazard in the region. He presented the first results of the CLIMAAX toolbox on heatwaves and stressed the urgent need for action plans to protect vulnerable populations. These sessions are crucial in creating spaces to share best practices, learn from one another, and build a common knowledge base to strengthen climate resilience across regions. The collaboration between insurance, public authorities, and communities is key to developing effective solutions.
