#ICIQSeminar | 🙌Thank you Prof. Tanja Weil from Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research for delivering a seminar about exploring controlled chemical reactions in complex living systems to generate drug molecules in situ. 🧩 Prof. Weil's research demonstrates that caged monomers form fibers in complex cellular environments. By introducing stimuli like pH or light, peptide self-assembly can be precisely controlled, enabling targeted applications like disrupting cell functions or activating immune responses. 💊 Combining different stimuli enables greater precision in uncaging reactions, as highlighted in Prof. Weil's seminar. Recently her group reported drug cyclization based on dynamic covalent linkages to devise a dual lock for a small-molecule anticancer drug. 🔵 Also thanks to our seminar sponsor BASF ICERCA - Centres de Recerca de Catalunya | Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) | SOMM Alliance

Sobre nosotros
ICIQ is a public foundation dedicated to chemical research aimed at addressing global challenges such as the climate emergency and human health. Recognised with two Severo Ochoa Centers of Excellence accreditations since 2014, the centre hosts 250 researchers distributed across 19 research groups focused on sustainable catalysis, renewable energies, and decarbonization, as well as molecular medicine. These groups drive frontier research using both computational and experimental tools. ICIQ scientists have secured a total of 26 projects funded by the European Research Council (ERC), and nine of them are ICREA professors (Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies). Located in Tarragona, ICIQ works closely with industry to enhance its competitiveness, fostering the development of innovative applications and the training of qualified professionals. As a CERCA centre and a member of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST), ICIQ is committed to sustainable and equitable development, open science, and the social impact of research. #ICIQSeminar | 🙌Thank you Prof. Rebecca Melen from Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd for delivering a seminar about the donor-acceptor ability of frustrated Lewis pairs. 🍐 Single electron transfer from a Lewis base donor to a Lewis acid acceptor can produce a frustrated radical species. This depends on both the substrate and energy required to promote a frustrated Lewis pairs into a frustrated radical pair. 🧪Prof. Melen discussed using borane Lewis acids in catalytic cyclization reactions. When paired with PMes₃, they form radical frustrated pairs, enabling C–C and C–S bond formation. This opens innovative pathways for chemical synthesis. 🌍New applications of borane Lewis acids in diazo activation were highlighted by Prof. Melen. These methods replace transition metals in a range of catalytic transformations, offering sustainable and efficient alternatives. 🔵 Also thanks to our seminar sponsor BASF ICERCA - Centres de Recerca de Catalunya | Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) | SOMM Alliance
