The European Federation for Welding, Joining and Cutting (EWF) continues to collaborate with IDONIAL Centro Tecnológico to optimize 3D-printed concrete structures for human shelters in post-disaster scenarios. This week, Fátima Zorro is at IDONIAL Centro Tecnológico in Gijón, where we’re advancing 3D printing techniques to create customized, housing solutions with enhanced design flexibility. ▶️The 6th Metabuilding Labs Project General Meeting was held on November 26-27, 2024, hosted by ÉMI Nonprofit Kft. at their facilities in Szentendre, Hungary. 🔹Over the course of two days and 12 sessions, the project's progress and achievements were showcased, with participation from over 40 consortium partners across 13 countries. 🔹The meeting focused on outlining future activities and objectives through the completion of the project and beyond, via the #MetabuildingPlatform (www.metabuilding.com). 👉A tour of #ÉMI's Testing Infrastructures provided attendees with an in-depth understanding of the scope and complexity of the Metabuilding Labs Open Innovation Testbed (OITB), which is being developed collaboratively. 🚀 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗨𝗽𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 🚀   We are thrilled to share insights from AILEEN, highlighting the best practices we’ve identified and implemented in technological education and upskilling.   🔹𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆: Our research has focused on various technologies, most of the identified best practices were on additive manufacturing and welding. These areas have shown significant potential for practical training solutions and upskilling, essential for staying ahead in the industry.   🔹𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁-𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸-𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀: We’ve explored the link between student-based and work-based training approaches, emphasizing the importance of digital and innovative training tools. These tools, especially in additive manufacturing, are crucial for effective learning and skill development.   🔹𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀: Collaboration between research, development, and practical training is vital. We’ve identified gaps in knowledge transfer and are working to bridge these through synergic efforts involving applied research and problem-based learning.   🔹𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀: Establishing harmonized training and quality assurance systems is a priority. This ensures consistent upskilling and reskilling, particularly in advanced manufacturing technologies like welding and additive manufacturing.   🔹𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀: There is no single best practice; the ideal approach is to combine various best practices for effective implementation.   🔹𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: To address the identified gaps, we recommend enhancing practical training solutions, improving the transfer of knowledge from research to practical application, and consistently upskilling in technological areas. These steps are crucial for maintaining a competitive edge and ensuring workforce readiness.   We are excited about the progress we’ve made and look forward to continuing our efforts to advance technological education and upskilling.
