🏆On the 25th of November, Levon Gevorkov was awarded the 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 of the GPID - Global Prize Innovation in Desalination within the category “TRL 1-3 Digital business model Process Optimization and Automation Management” for his innovative solutions for the desalination sector. 👉 He proposed the concept of the development of digital twins and AI assisted energy management systems to efficiently control power flow within a desalination plant. Levon’s work not only demonstrates technical excellence but also addresses critical issues that resonate with GPID’s mission of finding sustainable water solutions. The concept he proposed pushes the boundaries of knowledge and contributes to meaningful advancements in the field. About GPID: 🔹 The GPID is a highly competitive technical contest that recognizes and rewards significant contributions in water desalination, aiming to inspire sustainable water solutions. 🔹 The GPID 2024 achieved remarkable participation, with around 540 submissions from 80 universities and research institutions across 56 countries. Currently, Levon Gevorkov is a postdoctoral researcher at the Power Systems Department at IREC - Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya and he is focused on renewable energy sources, energy storage systems, photovoltaic pumping systems, and power electronics. 📢 𝐁𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐂𝐇 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬 2024 BATTECH, an initiative supported by IREC - Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya and Eurecat - Centro Tecnológico, showcased its latest research and innovative solutions at the Battery Innovation Days 2024, held at the Hotel Barceló Sants in Barcelona from November 26-27, 2024. 🔹 #BID2024 brought together numerous key players and experts from the battery field to discuss the future of battery R&I in Europe. 🔹 It gathered around 1500 participants, both online and onsite, with the participation of 19 exhibitors and 45 speakers ranging from European Commission officials to industry and researchers. Our participation: 🔹IREC participated in the event with a joint stand with Eurecat that attracted over 50 visitors interested in BATTECH, an initiative that comprises the entire battery value chain that includes flagship projects such as COBRA and MARBEL H2020 project. 🔹 Members of the Tech Transfer team and several researchers actively engaged in networking opportunities with national and international experts, public entities, and key stakeholders. 🔹 IREC’s involvement in this event highlights its commitment to pioneering sustainable solutions and fostering collaborations that drive innovation and support the deployment of advanced energy solutions. 🚗🔋 Exciting insights from the "Next-Gen EV-Battery Solutions Showcase" in Barcelona! Yesterday, we had the privilege of participating in the Next-Gen EV-Battery Solutions Showcase workshop, organized by Collabat - Cluster of H2020 Battery Projects in Barcelona. The event brought together innovative leaders in the EV battery sector to highlight the outcomes of 4️⃣ groundbreaking EU-funded projects: Albatross Project H2020, HELIOS_H2020, LIBERTY Project and #MARBELproject. H2B2 Electrolysis Technologies, la empresa sevillana centrada en la creación de un mercado en torno al #hidrógeno #renovable y uno de los pocos fabricantes de electrolizadores que existen en Europa, apuesta por desarrollar tecnología de óxido sólido (SOC) en colaboración con IREC - Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya. En el marco de esta colaboración, en la que destacamos un Proyecto Importante de Interés Común Europeo (IPCEI, por sus siglas en inglés), donde estamos innovando dentro de la SOC comercial mediante el desarrollo de un prototipo de electrolizador que promete revolucionar la eficiencia: ✅ Menor consumo de energía eléctrica ✅ Aprovechamiento del calor residual industrial ✅ Uso de fuentes renovables para generar hidrógeno verde La tecnología SOC, aunque necesita aún mejoras a nivel de coste, ya cuenta con un nivel de desarrollo suficientemente avanzado como para apostar por instalaciones a gran escala. Researchers from the Energy Storage, Harvesting and Catalysis Department and the Nanoionics and Fuel Cells department at IREC - Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya, in collaboration with the Port de Barcelona, have investigated the feasibility of adopting e-MGO, a sustainable marine electro-fuel, in maritime transport. 🌱🔋 The 24/7 ZEN project at European Hydrogen Week 2024! 🔋🌱 The EU Hydrogen Week 2024, held from 18th to 22nd of November, was a great opportunity to showcase hydrogen’s transformative potential in the global energy transition. Industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers gathered to discuss the latest advancements and strategies in hydrogen technologies. A major focus of the EU Hydrogen week was on how hydrogen can power initiatives like the 24/7 ZEN project. Exploiting the use of hydrogen, the 24/7 ZEN project is setting new standards in sustainable energy, establishing communities that are continuously fueled by sustainable, clean energy. Dr. Marc Torrell, the coordinator of the project, and Mr. Nikolaos Ntavos, attended the EU Hydrogen Week, on behalf of IREC - Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya and CluBE-Cluster of Bioeconomy and Environment of Western Macedonia, to showcase the project’s activities and explore opportunities for collaboration.
