💧 Happy Mediterranean Day! 💧 The Mediterranean is one of the world's most important biodiversity hotspots, but it is also among the most vulnerable regions to the impacts of climate change. Collaborative action is the only way to face this growing threat. 🤝 IUCN Med is proud to support the Mediterranean Alliance for Wetlands (MAW), a network of over 25 environmental NGOs and research organisations from 18 countries working to protect wetlands across the region, as a capacity building advisor. Wetlands play a critical role in mitigating climate change and ensuring biodiversity resilience. MAW strives to elevate wetlands' importance in society while empowering policymakers, managers, and civil society to create inclusive, climate-resilient solutions. Last month, MAW members gathered in Camargue for their General Assembly. The meeting highlighted clear priorities: strengthening conservation financing and building capacities across the region. Networks like MAW exemplify the power of collaboration in achieving these goals. The Mediterranean’s future depends on collective effort. The MEDAE network - a multi-stakeholder network in favor of the agroecology in the Mediterranean - is moving forward! The MEDAE network made of diverse and complementary organisations (universities, research centers, development organisations, farmers, consumers, political organisations…) believes that the principles of agroecology can provide a relevant and multidimensional response in favour of sustainable #food systems across the #Mediterranean. The Network was initiated by the NATAE project, a research project funded by the European Commission from 2022 to 2026, with the aim of promoting #agroecological transition in North Africa. For the launch of the MEDAE network, and in preparation of the UNCCDCOP16, a webinar will look at the prospects for supporting the deployment of #agroecology in public policies in #NorthAfrica. ⏲️ 26 November 2024 at 14.00 hrs CET ✍ Sign up to this webinar and learn more about it 🌱 The IUCN Food and Agricultural Systems team is actively involved in the NATAE project through helping to monitor six living labs across various countries in #NorthAfrica. These labs function as collaborative hubs where food system actors come together to identify and test agroecological practices, laying the groundwork for sustainable agricultural transformation in the region and offering valuable insights into the evolving landscape of agroecology in North Africa. More about MEDAE ➡️ https://lnkd.in/drxjS3s9 👉 You can also access the recordings of previous webinars with researchers, development operators and farmers on the agroecological transition in five representative agrosystems in North Africa: mountain agroforests, oases, cereal plains, peri-urban areas and irrigated valleys. 💡https://lnkd.in/dM3PGiU7
This webinar will present the results of a cross-sectional analysis of public policies in North Africa, as well as an examination of the place of agroecology in international conventions, and will look at the extent to which these policies provide a favourable or unfavourable framework for the agroecological transition. There will be time for discussion on the prospects for supporting agroecology and ways of encouraging the agroecological transition in North Africa.
