A taste of the Arctic: King crab from Kjøllefjord 🦀 In the far north of Norway, where rugged mountains meet the pristine Arctic Ocean, lies Kjøllefjord—a small village with a big treasure. Beneath its icy waters thrives one of the ocean’s most exclusive delicacies: king crab. For over 20 years, we at Lerøy have been proud to harvest, process, and share this Arctic jewel with the world. What sets Kjøllefjord apart isn’t just the crab—it’s the community. Small fishing boats operated by local fishers bring in the catch year-round. At our state-of-the-art factory, tradition meets innovation, as advanced laser measurement and precision cooking ensure every crab meets the highest quality standards. From these fjords to Michelin-starred restaurants, our king crab has earned a reputation for excellence. But this isn’t just about seafood — it’s about impact. Lerøy's King Crab industry sustains livelihoods, accounts for 17 % of private-sector jobs in Lebesby Municipality, and fosters a vibrant, close-knit multicultural community in Kjøllefjord. From bold culinary creations like chili-marinated crab to simple yet perfect bites with lemon and mayonnaise, Kjøllefjord king crab is a canvas for flavors around the world. Thanks to our commitment to sustainability and year-round operations, this Arctic delicacy can travel from the icy waters of Kjøllefjord to dining tables in New York, Tokyo, or Paris—delivered fresh and flawless, often within just 24 hours. We’re proud to share more than a product—we’re sharing a story of Arctic nature’s bounty, the dedication of local craftsmanship, and the extraordinary flavors that connect cultures across the globe. 🌍 Read more in Norwegian: https://bit.ly/35Ade1U Read more in English: https://bit.ly/3IolMHL #LeroySeafood #KingCrab #Kjøllefjord

Ole Mikkel Lerøen: The fisherman who built more than a business 🐟 In a humble fishing shed on the small island of Lerøy, near Bergen, a young fisherman named Ole Mikkel began a journey that would impact generations. With his trusted oselvar-boat and an unshakable work ethic, Ole Mikkel wasn’t just catching fish — he was crafting a legacy. From an early age, it was clear he was different. Long before confirmation age, Ole Mikkel earned a “man’s share” of the catch, a rare honor that reflected his extraordinary skill. Though encouraged to pursue prestigious roles like priest or teacher, he chose the sea — a calling he felt deep in his bones. Ole Mikkel was more than a fisherman; he was a leader, a teacher, and a community builder. Known for his generosity and fairness, he split his earnings with care, ensuring the boat, crew, and future were always provided for. His grandson recalls how Ole Mikkel not only mastered the sea’s challenges but also inspired others with his infectious love of life and people. Even without embracing the newest technologies, Ole Mikkel’s knowledge of tides, winds, and the art of fishing made him a master. His fresh catch was the finest in Bergen, and his integrity earned him the nickname “Levebrød,” meaning “livelihood” — a reflection of how he supported his community beyond just fish. Today, Ole Mikkel’s values of quality, hard work, and giving back remain the heart of Lerøy Seafood. His story is a reminder that true success is about more than growth; it’s about staying true to who you are and lifting others along the way. With a new digital record system, all fish health documentation related to the production of salmon and trout will be collected. This gives Lerøy a data base with enormous potential for fish health 🐟 The journal system facilitates health promotion work throughout the entire life cycle of the fish. - With "Fiskehelseportalen", we can map and compare groups in a more efficient way than today. It makes it easier to implement measures and work more preventively with improvement measures towards the health of the fish we are responsible for, says fish health coordinator, Linn Maren Strandenes. After about 4–6 weeks on land, our sugar kelp and winged kelp is now being put into the sea. The kelp has the potential to reach a weight of 240 tonnes by the time it is harvested in April 2025. The kelp is great to eat, as it has an unique umami-taste. Kelp can also be used in feed for farm animals, including cattle. Cattle produce very high methane emissions, and if they eat kelp, it actually means they burp (and fart) less! Kelp has also been shown to improve the intestinal health of piglets, reducing the need for antibiotics 🌱 Read more: In English: https://lnkd.in/drdxh3ik In Norwegian: https://lnkd.in/dAJccKKp #OceanForest #LeroySeafood #Kelp
