7 new tracks featuring NATURE and $225,000 to organizations conserving the Colombian Andes. It’s a big week for the Sounds Right initiative, and a proud one for us at EarthPercent! In time for the Biodiversity COP in Cali, seven new feat. NATURE tracks have been released, and we announced that $225,000 from the Sounds Right will be granted to conservation projects in Colombia's Tropical Andes. Sounds Right, an initiative led by the Museum for the UN - Live, launched NATURE as an official artist on streaming platforms this April. NATURE raises her own royalties, which are directed to conservation work via EarthPercent. We’re immensely grateful to the Sounds Right Expert Advisory Panel - Kavita Prakash-Mani, Mindahi Bastida, Shivani Bhalla, David Emmett and Julia P G Jones - for advising our grant-giving. You can listen to the new tracks by Alexis Taylor, Lykke Li, Ela Minus, Aysay, Sam Lee, Allen Anjeh, Louis VI and Jenny Sturgeon here: https://lnkd.in/e29GZsFV Listen to all of NATURE’s songs, including the new ecosystem sounds albums, at NATURE’s profile: https://lnkd.in/d7EHaDVZ (also available on other streaming platforms!)

Today, at the 2024 UN Biodiversity Conference COP16 Colombia, Sounds Right announces its first funds will go to the conservation of critical ecosystems in the Tropical Andes, Colombia. Earlier this year, ‘NATURE’ officially launched as a musical artist on major streaming platforms through Sounds Right, an initiative from the Museum for the United Nations - UN Live and partners which allows nature to generate royalties and funding from her own sounds. Global artists including David Bowie x Brian Eno, Ellie Goulding and Bomba Estéreo released tracks ‘Feat. NATURE’, inviting listeners to support biodiversity protection by streaming music. In just six months, NATURE has reached over 65M+ streams from 7.5M+ listeners in over 180 countries. Today, Sounds Right announces that NATURE is gifting away her royalties and institutional donations for the first time, initially to support conservation efforts in Colombia, home to almost 10% of the world’s biodiversity, and where the initiative was co-founded with sound artist collective VozTerra. Kavita Prakash-Mani, Chair of the Sounds Right Fund Expert Advisory Panel, said: “Sounds of nature are inspiring, uplifting, relaxing, meditative and much more. We benefit without realising and we thread them into our songs, culture, our language. Now we need to give back at a time when our forests and grasslands are falling silent as species are lost. Sounds Right is an amazing initiative to protect and restore nature. To use the talent of our musicians and harness the power of individual action to make a lasting change to the world we live in. I am delighted and inspired to be part of this journey.” Read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/dKZkykQm Sounds Right is delivered in partnership with EarthPercent, @limbomusic, VozTerra, The Listening Planet, Earthrise Studio , No. 29 Communications, Music Declares Emergency, LD Comms, Community Arts Network, Count Us In, Rare, Biophonica, AKQA, Hempel Foundation, Axum, The World We Want - Impact Studios & Consultancy, eleutheria, Dalberg Collaborators Wildlife Conservation Society, The Nature Conservancy, Apoc Worldwide, Riky Rick Foundation, AWorld, Open Planet #SoundsRight #COP16 #COP16Colombia #Biodiversity #Conservation

So far, we’ve failed to address the root cause of the biodiversity crisis. Our economic model doesn’t value nature adequately, instead treating it as a resource to be exploited or a place to dump waste. How might we prompt millions of people to re-evaluate nature’s contribution? At the Museum for the United Nations - UN Live we think this requires meeting people where they are — in this case, via their phones and the music they love. — I recently spoke to The RSA (The royal society for arts, manufactures and commerce) about #SoundsRight and wrote a piece for the RSA Journal: https://lnkd.in/e8ThVzna Thanks to several recent inspirations and thought partners as we prepare to scale-up: Kumi Naidoo Joanna Choukeir, PhD Amitav Ghosh Maureen Iminza Mbwaya Katja Iversen Cathy Runciman Nicolai Villads Løser Smith Emil Rostgaard Schelde Kavita Prakash-Mani Anders Holm Zoe Scaman Fer Isella David Emmett Miriam Plon Sauer Thomas W. By treating NATURE as an official artist on streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music, Sounds Right directs royalties from natural sound recordings to conservation efforts around the world. Three new Sounds Right tracks featuring NATURE the artist are out now! We're thrilled that Madame Gandhi, ONR and Peter Hall have chosen to be part of Sounds Right, three artists whose music deeply embodies the idea of non-human nature as a collaborator. As well as recognising NATURE as a collaborating performing artist, these tracks draw influence from cherished ecosystems, from the glaciers of the Antarctic to the natural beauty of Scotland, and inspire their protection. NATURE receives at least 50% of recording royalties from tracks by artists that feature, and 100% of NATURE's share is directed to conservation and the protection of vulnerable ecosystems. Our Sounds Right Expert Panel decide which organizations receive this funding Sounds Right is a music initiative to recognise the value of NATURE and inspire millions of fans to take environmental action, launched in collaboration with Museum for the United Nations - UN Live and global partners including AKQA @limbomusic VozTerra The Listening Planet and many more.
