  • At Managing Composites, we are passionate ♥️ about composites and we want to share that passion with everyone. That's why, a few years ago, we created The Native Lab, so that anyone from anywhere in the world 🌍 can learn more about this exciting field.        We have dedicated our entire careers to composites and have learned in the most demanding industries, such as #Formula1 🏎️ and #aerospace 🚀 👨🔬 But composites are the real revolution in materials, and they are conquering all kinds of industries, so we want many more people to master these materials that have been revolutionizing engineering for decades.        👩🏫 That is why, from the very beginning, we wanted to create a tool that would allow us to share all the knowledge we have acquired and to work together to ensure that composites continue to improve the lives of more people every day.         Find out what The Native Lab has to offer 👇

  • Best of 2024!     Which posts have been most successful in 2024?    This year is coming to an end, so let's look back at the most liked posts of the last 11 months.    The most popular post of February had the following stats:    🔺 447 recommendations  🔺 18 comments  🔺 25 times shared    And that was the post 👇   Let's learn more about pultrusion! 👀    In a typical pultrusion process, reinforcing fibers are impregnated with a matrix (thermoplastic or thermosetting) using a wet-out process and subsequently cured in a forming die. Here, the profile is continuously pulled through the die and can subsequently be cut to length with a saw. This process facilitates the automated and cost-effective manufacture of fiber-reinforced plastic profiles of various geometries. The name pultrusion is derived from "pull” and “extrusion”. 🕵🏻♂️    During the course of an open process, the reinforcing fibers are pulled off doffs or rolls from a creel racking system and guided over a dip roller through a resin bath. The fibers then may pass through one or more pre-shaping stations that increasingly consolidate the resin impregnated fibers and slowly approximate the final, desired profile. In the curing die, the impregnated material is quickly brought to curing temperature. Usually, the profile slowly heats up from the outside to the inside, causing the resin to gel and cure. The whole process is driven by a gripper/puller system. 😁    Curious to know more? Check out this short video made by Strongwell, the world's leading pultruder of fiber reinforced (FRP) structural components! 😎

  • 🎉 We are on Top Gear Publishing‼️🏎️ 🚗 As many of you know, we are very proud at Managing Composites because we have played a key role in developing several parts of the Zenvo Automotive A/S #Aurora, including the #carbonfiber monocoque and the crash-test campaign required for its street-legal certification. 📢 It’s now #official: the public debut of the Aurora, featuring its 6.6L V12 engine with four turbochargers, will take place in the best possible setting: The 2025 edition of the legendary #Goodwood Festival of Speed hill climb. • 🏆 Best of 2024 🏆   What were the posts that you liked the most this year?   Now that there are only a few days left until the end of 2024, let's look back at the most successful posts of the year.   Let's start at the beginning. 📅 The most popular post of January had the following stats:   🔺1277 recommendations 🔺 29 comments 🔺 70 times shared   And that was the post 👇   Morphing wing demonstrator! 👀 This “flexfoil” demonstrator by winglet specialist Aviation Partners Inc. and joint-venture partner FlexSys was displayed at the 2016 National Business Aviation Association show. The demo illustrates how the airfoil shape could change in flight to boost performance over a wide range of angles of attack, indicated airspeeds and Mach levels! 🤩 ✈️ FlexFoil™ variable geometry control surfaces represent a major improvement over conventional aircraft flaps. By exploiting the natural elasticity of aviation-grade materials, the FlexFoil™ control surface changes the camber of a wing during flight by shape morphing rather than through the heavy and cumbersome mechanisms of conventional wing flap assemblies. Shape morphing performs the large controlled deformations (from -9° to + 40°) needed for landing and takeoff using a surface that is integral to the rest of the wing. FlexFoil also permits discrete span-wise twist of the compliant edge at high response rates (up to 30 degrees/sec.) to reduce induced drag and withstand external loads (air loads, inertial loads etc.), yet it is strong and stiff with very small distributed strains on the mechanical structures and control surfaces. 🕵🏻♀️ FlexSys variable geometry technology can be applied to both the trailing edge and leading edge control surfaces for rotorcraft to improve flow characteristics at high rates. The leading edge structure is made of Titanium and is capable of 10° LE droop once per rev. The trailing edge utilizes fiberglass for it's structure and is capable of up to 5 cycles per rev! 😎

  • 🏄♂️ When the Shit Hits The Fan 🏄 💥 How much can a #carbonfiber windsurf mast bend before breaking❓ Well, the answer is… A lot ❗ In this video, we can see a #windsurf gear manufacturer testing the flex capacity of one of their masts. The flexibility is astonishing, and it seems almost impossible to encounter winds strong enough to break it while riding the waves 🌊 Did you expect such flexibility? Let us know in the comments 👇 Source: Unifiber Youtube

  • 🏃♀️➡️ We run together for a cause! 🏃 👟 A few days ago , we laced up our running shoes and we came together as a team to support incredible causes. We participated in the: 🔺 Madrid runs for Valencia for the DANA victims 🔺 Fly against gender-based violence Race 🔺 The Cities Race Against Pancreatic Cancer in Valencia. It was more than just a 10K and 5K run; it was a day of unity, action, and purpose. From cheering each other on to crossing the finish line, we proved that together we can take meaningful steps for a better future. Running as a team, supporting as a family, and believing in the power of community🏅 Every step we took was a stride toward a brighter, healthier, and more equitable future. 🫂  These experiences remind us of the power of community and the importance of supporting important causes. Proud to stand together, run together, and make a difference together 🏆 #ManagingComposites #TeamSpirit #5KRun #10KRun #TogetherForGood #StrongerTogether #RunForACause

  • Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) is a manufacturing process designed to produce lightweight, high-performance structures using a #robotic machine🤖   🏭 It is widely used in industrial processes where consistent production is essential to ensure the quality and characteristics of all manufactured parts.    This is an additive manufacturing technique, enabling the construction of large-scale structures, as we can see in this video, where it's used to build the fuselage of a passenger aircraft among other parts ✈️     Which industries do you think could benefit the most from this technique❓ Share your thoughts in the comments 👇

  • 📢 MC CLASSICS! 📢    Resin infusion never gets old, so let's talk about it because is a fascinating manufacturing process that is widely spread in the composites industry⛵     Resin infusion is a sophisticated technique for manufacturing high performance, void-free composites even on large or complicated molds. In this manufacturing process, reinforcement is laid into the mold ‘‘dry’’, i.e. without any resin, and then enclosed in a specially configured stack of bagging materials (such as peel-ply, infusion mesh, and bagging film) before being subjected to vacuum pressure using a vacuum pump. 🧐    Once all the air has been removed from the bag and the reinforcement has been fully compressed under this pressure, liquid resin (mixed with hardener) is introduced to the reinforcement through a pipe which then infuses through the reinforcement under the vacuum pressure. Once the resin has fully infused through the reinforcement, the supply of resin is cut off and the resin is left to cure, still under vacuum pressure. 😎    ⛵ This video shows a Volvo Ocean Race boat's hull mold being infused in late 2012! The infusion process is best suited for time lapses! Amazing isn't it❓     Bibliographical Reference: EasyComposites
