The Twilight Conference is over, The Twilight Challenge starts here! Last week we organized an amazing conference on Underwater Bioinspired Robotics with our sponsors Navantia, S.A., S.M.E, SAES, S.M.E., Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial «Esteban Terradas» and Academia Joven de España. All the presentations and debates where remarkable thanks to the help of our academic advisors Daniel Garcia Gonzalez and Abdon Pena-Francesch, but also thanks to all the amazing speakers that we have (mentions below). After the conference, a new chapter of this journey begins. We launch The Twilight Challenge, a call to the scientific community to collaborate on the design and development of a bioinspired underwater robot (AUV). We will award the best Paper, best LAB Research Project and Best Prototype Development. It was a top-quality conference, with a cross-disciplinary audience, thought-provoking presentations, plenty of discussions, and lateral thinking. It was great seeing a few European Research Council (ERC) grantees in the same room. The final evening event at the Prado Museum was one for the ages. Meet Richard Murray, Editor-in-Chief of Advanced Intelligent Discovery, Advanced Robotics Research and Advanced Intelligent Systems. He obtained his B.Sc. (experimental physics) and his Ph.D. (physical chemistry) at the University of Galway, in Ireland. Following postdoctoral training at CIC BiomaGUNE, Spain, he moved to Berlin for a Marie Curie postdoctoral fellowship. He worked as an associate editor for Wiley’s Materials Science journals, including Advanced Materials, from 2017 to 2019. After spending time working in OA book publishing and project management, Richard rejoined Wiley in 2022. His presentation will close the Twilight Conference with an Editorial perspective.
