On 20.11.2024, the first workshop of the MARES Project (MArine REciprocating Superconducting Generator) took place in Madrid. Its objective is to develop a superconducting generator for wave energy conversion based on two different technologies of superconductors, The project includes the participation of CIEMAT (ES) as host and coordinator of the project, along with our the active participation of Cyclomed TECHNOLOGIES (ES) as experts in superconducting and cryogenic technologies, and the prolific support of the rest of the consortium partners: ANTEC MAGNETS (ES) and its parent company ANTECSA (ES) (Antec Group), experts in the design and manufacture of conventional and superconducting magnets; ASG (IT), a leading company in the production of superconducting Magnesium Diboride cable; CERN (CH), the European Organization for Nuclear Research, a leading organization in the development of superconducting magnets; EFESTO FRANCE (FR), developer of hybrid traction systems; WEDGE GLOBAL (ES), developers of generation technologies from ocean energy and particularly wave energy; TEAMWORK (NL), also experts in ocean and other renewable energies; UNIBO (IT), the University of Bologna, which provides its know-how in superconductivity technologies and applications; and finally SUPRASYS (ES), a company specialised in the calculation and design of electromagnetic and particularly superconducting applications. In this first workshop, the steps to accomplish the generator design (which constitutes the activity to be developed in the WP2) were taken and the bases for achieving the project objectives were defined. After a review of the main technical challenges to afford, an activity calendar was discussed as well as a preliminary assignment of tasks to the WP2 partners.
