At the last 🎙️ #TheNTWKTalks 🎙️, Mercedes Gutiérrez Álvarez, Head of New Business & Innovation Circular Business at Ingka Group, shared the launch of IKEA Preowned, a secondhand peer-to-peer marketplace to promote sustainability and enable the access to more affordable home furnishings. With the global secondhand furniture market projected to reach 60 billion euros by 2030—outpacing new furniture sales—online marketplaces are driving this trend, and IKEA products already account for 10% of secondhand home furnishings. Here are some preliminary results of the new IKEA initiative: 🟡 IKEA's preowned marketplace is now being rolled out throughout Spain and Norway. Further insights and improvements will guide the next steps, including expansion into more countries. 🟡 Preowned items are priced 48% lower than new products, making IKEA home furnishing even more affordable. 🟡 The marketplace received a high customer satisfaction score of 4.3 out of 5, reflecting positive customer experiences. 🟡 25% of marketplace visitation comes from outside Spain and Norway, indicating strong international demand.
