In 2024, Rio Grande do Sul, in the south region of Brazil, endured the most severe natural disaster in its history, with intense rainfall affecting 471 cities, displacing over 600,000 people, and claiming 170 lives. The initiative "SOS Floods Movement RS," led by the Vakinha Institute, raised R$ 79 million to address the crisis. To ensure effective use of the funds, the Vakinha Institute partnered with Synergia Consultoria Socioambiental, which provided strategic planning services pro bono. Synergia developed a comprehensive donation distribution plan prioritizing education, health, social assistance, economic reconstruction, accessibility, housing, sanitation, fauna and emergency. The plan targeted the most vulnerable communities and emphasized both emergency relief and long-term resilience. The selection process for fund allocation was guided by criteria across three dimensions - institutions, projects, and territories - focusing on local realities and transparency. This project demonstrates the power of collaboration in transforming realities and promoting a fairer and more sustainable future, perfectly aligning with TPF Group’s core values of innovation, sustainability, and social responsibility. In November 2024, Johan Elegheert, Managing Director of TPF Utilities, participated in the Belgian Economic Mission to Brazil alongside João Recena, Ricardo Carvalho, and André Jabir Assumpção from TPF Engenharia. The mission allowed the establishment of new relations with Belgian entrepreneurs, strengthen the collaboration with colleagues from Brazil, and gather insights into the many upcoming projects in the country focused on engineering services, particularly those related to decarbonization for the future.   As experts in fuel cells and electrolysis, TPF Utilities also participated in panel discussions and workshops on the development of infrastructure for hydrogen projects. Our team was honoured to meet Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium, introducing her to our rapidly expanding company and our motivation to make the difference in reducing the CO2 footprint of our public and private clients. The ongoing development of services for projects producing synthetic fuels based on hydrogen, such as Ammonia and Biomethanol, is an essential part of this mission.   In today’s global context, where energy independence is more important than ever, TPF also believes this development and evolution is of great importance for its strategic clients, both in Belgium and across Europe. Based on our local presence in Brazil, our technical knowledge (desalination, energy storage, and transport, hydroelectricity) across TPF internationally, and our professionalism in project management, we are convinced that we hold a unique position in contributing strongly to the greatest challenge for the coming decades: mitigate global warming.   #Decarbonization #HydrogenInfrastructure #SustainableEnergy #GlobalWarming #EnergyIndependence #TPFUtilities #EngineeringInnovation #BelgianEconomicMission

At TPF, we remain committed to shaping the cities of tomorrow by transforming public spaces into sustainable, resilient, and safer environments. In Belgium, the City of Antwerp, in collaboration with water supplier water-link, bus and tram operator De Lijn and the train operator NMBS-SNCB, has selected the design team BUREAU BAS SMETS, TPF ENGINEERING and Origin to redesign the Astridplein, located next to the city’s iconic central station. Our team is actively involved in every phase of the project, from preliminary design to final acceptance, including the preparation of as-built documentation. This ambitious project will transform Astridplein into a greener, climate-resilient urban space by incorporating more trees, shaded areas, rainwater collection and reuse systems. It will also enhance accessibility and infrastructure for pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users, renovate underground bicycle parking, and improve underground connections with the Astrid and Diamant pre-metro stations.   The contract was awarded in October 2024. Works are expected to start in autumn 2028, with completion slated for 2029.    Image: BUREAU BAS SMETS   #SustainableMobility #ClimateResilience #UrbanTransformation #Antwerp #TPFEngineering #Belgium
