#Transferència | Recentment s'ha constituït Virtest Technologies, una nova #spinoff de la #UPFBarcelona amb l’objectiu d’impulsar l’ús de bessons virtuals per ajudar tant els metges com les empreses de dispositius mèdics. Amb aquesta tecnologia, els professionals sanitaris poden planificar i executar intervencions mínimament invasives de manera més segura i personalitzada, mentre que les empreses de dispositius poden optimitzar els dissenys actuals i desenvolupar solucions més eficients. A través de la seva innovadora plataforma VIDAA, els metges poden visualitzar models 3D i realitzar simulacions computacionals per planificar intervencions, així com per definir tractaments i seguiments adaptats a cada pacient. VirTest, sorgida del grup de recerca PhySense de la Unitat BCN-MedTech del Departament d’EnginyEria UPF, ha estat fundada pels investigadors: Jordi Mill, Ainhoa M. Aguado, Oscar Camara i Andy L. Olivares. Aquesta spin-off compta amb una clara vinculació amb la UPF, no només amb la recerca del grup Physense, sinó que també ha consolidat el seu creixement incorporant majoritàriament talent format a la mateixa Universitat, reforçant els vincles amb la institució en les diferents fases del projecte.   Hem parlat amb el CEO de VirTest, Jordi Mill, que ens explica com aquesta iniciativa pretén redefinir el futur de les tecnologies mèdiques i quins reptes i oportunitats veuen en el camí cap a la implementació clínica. Big news! 🎉   We’re excited to announce the founding of Virtest Technologies!   Five years ago, this all started as a national project, and honestly, who would’ve thought we’d make it this far? It’s been a rollercoaster of hard work, lessons (and a few stumbles), but above all, we’ve been lucky to have incredible people by our side who made this possible. To the amazing researchers at UPF’s PhySense group, the physicians who believed in our vision from day one, and all the collaborators, friends, and companies that joined us along the way. But this isn’t the end, this is just the beginning. We’ve got so much more ahead, and there are still many steps to be taken. Stay tuned for further developments and news. Today, October 29th, is World Stroke Day! 🌍 🧠 Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. One critical risk factor for stroke is atrial fibrillation (AF). This irregular heartbeat can increase the risk of stroke by forming blood clots in the heart. One treatment option to reduce this risk is Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion (LAAO), which helps prevent blood clots in patients with AF. This year's theme focuses on prevention, recognizing the early warning signs, and understanding the importance of timely medical intervention. 🩺 Act FAST: - Face drooping - Arm weakness - Speech difficulties - Time to call emergency services Let’s work together to spread the word about stroke prevention and the importance of understanding risk factors like AF. VIDAA is used to create new evidence on the impact of LAAO hemodynamics! 🫀 Exploring how device position impact clinical outcomes utilizing the VIDAA platform, allows to understand the LAA behavior and to decide the optimal device configuration to reduce post-procedural complications. Further evidence is coming with the IDEAL study, testing a new score for DRT risk assessment. 📣 This year at CSI Frankfurt congress 2024, VIDAA presented the preliminary results of the IDEAL study! The IDEAL study is a retrospective clinical study involving 365 patients across 9 European hospitals, focusing on left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) procedures. VIDAA is involved by using the flow simulations and clinical data to create a digital twin to determine the optimal position for LAAO devices and stratify the risk of DRT. Through in-silico simulations, the IDEAL study aims to: • Find differences in flow dynamics between proximal and distal positions in LAAO implantations. • See if there are differences between plug and pacifier devices. • Assess if DRT (device-related thrombus) can be predicted 👀 Check out the image below to see the preliminary results involving 59 patients, of which 27% had DRT.
