Last week, we marked 15 years of impact. This week, we will delve into what impact means for us: impact on what and for whom? To answer this question, let's travel to Madagascar 🇲🇬 First, let's go back in time a little bit. In 2019, Conservation International partnered with Vizzuality to create the "Resilience Atlas", a data platform that would provide clear insights for governments, communities, donors, and businesses facing challenges like climate change and conflict across over 40 countries in Sahel, Horn of Africa, and South/Southeast Asia 🌍 One of these countries was Madagascar, where our first #impactstory is set. There, Conservation International and the Madagascar Government use the "Resilience Atlas" to map exposure to unpredictable rainfall and flooding in order to sustain a resilient rice production. Yesterday, we came together in Madrid for our annual Christmas dinner and a surprise for the 15 years of Vizzuality... 🎂 🎁 The night was full of lively conversations, laughter, tasty food, and a special cake to surprise our co-founders David González and Sergio Estella, and congratulate them on 15 years of existence and impact in global sustainability. What an unforgettable evening! 🎉 Massive thanks to Sebastian Bueno & Liuba Cordie for organizing the event and creating a convivial space for our remote team members to get together once again.

UPDATES: This week, Susana Romao and Francis Gassert participated in dynamic discussions at the SatSummit. While Francis delved into Earth Observation's influence on land management, Susana led a panel unraveling the devastating effects of war on people and nature. Leaving the conference, here are a few of their highlights: 🌍 The EO community is vast and GIS applications are more complex than ever. 🚀 Launching satellites is getting cheaper, yet defense intelligence dominates data usage. 🌳 Forest monitoring excels while other land-use aspects lag behind. 🤝 Ground-level validation enhances accuracy - crowdsourcing can be pivotal. In essence, we need reliable sources of EO data that are easily accessible and free. More needs to be done to distribute open data and we are proud to be a part of this movement - with countless others! - who stand for open data for humanitarian and environmental purposes 🌱 Big thanks and congrats to the organisers and the incredible speakers for this year's edition and see you next year! #SatSummit

Global conflicts hurt not only people and animals but also the environment: "The environment is the invisible victim of conflict; we are trying to make this visible using Earth Observation." As conflicts continue to grow, ecosystems are at risk, and the work being done by these #SatSummit attendees has the potential to mitigate the risk, raise awareness, and attempt to restore impacted areas. In order to continue to monitor these situations, we need a reliable source of EO data that is open, accessible, and free. Quite frankly, the commercial data providers have made access and licensing difficult and have prioritized the military. We can build satellites and distribute open data for humanitarian and environmental purposes with the right partnerships, funding, and technology. kudos and thank you Wim Zwijnenburg Cornelia S. A few months back, we teamed up with Planet Tracker to conduct a “nature footprinting” study featuring Nestlé 🍫 Our goal was to demonstrate what is possible in terms of transparency - even without full traceability data - and encourage companies to think more broadly about their nature footprint and act on it, and for investors to recognize hidden supply chain effects. Here the Planet Tracker and Vizzuality teams used our LandGriffon tool and methodology to model Nestlé's carbon, deforestation, and water footprints.
