Our X30 floating wind prototype in Canary Island delivered its first kWh! The milestone marks the world’s first fully functional TLP floating wind platform to export power and Spain's first floating wind platform to export electricity. ‘First power’ was fed into PLOCAN's offshore platform smart grid via a 1.4km underwater cable. The project will now enter the last phase of a rigorous test and verification program which started with the platform installation in November 2022, in preparation for the technology industrialization and certification for commercial scale projects currently under development. X30 Prototype main design features: - Equipped with a specially adapted V29 Vestas turbine and ABB power converter - TLP mooring system, which dramatically reduces the seabed footprint (compared to traditional designs proposing catenary mooring lines) - SPM design enables the floater to ‘self-align’ passively and maximize energy yields while reducing maintenance needs. Weathervaning with Single-Point Mooring: Unlocking the Power of Wind and Ocean Our platform uses an innovative single-point mooring (SPM) system, the PivotBuoy®, to passively weathervane and self-orientate with the wind without needing an active yaw actuator. The results obtained from our X30 platform in the Canary Islands were extremely positive, showing better alignment than typical active mechanical yaw systems for medium and strong wind speeds. ✅The platform showed very low misalignment of 2-3° for wind speeds above 7.5m/s, when most power production occurs. ✅For lower wind speeds of 5-7.5m/s, the average misalignment was around 4°, similar to public data on traditional active yaw systems. Two years ago, we were out at sea installing the X30—the world’s first fully functional TLP floating wind platform exporting power as part of the PivotBuoy Project! This project successfully demonstrated X1 Wind’s PivotBuoy technology in real open-sea conditions. All the data from the part-scale platform—covering installation and decommissioning, self-alignment, roll and pitch, power curve, survivability, and more—has shown excellent results and provided critical insights for scaling up our commercial projects.
