Wartime Lessons in Munition Expenditure Bottom line in combat the difference between planned expenditure versus actual use of weapons in combat is massive - at least in early stages of conflict (ref. the battle of Java Sea for both sides)… This week the Navy has provided an accounting of its combat in the Red Sea against Iran’s proxy the Houthis: “All told, Navy ships, aircraft and submarines have engaged more than 400 Houthi aerial drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles since October 2023…” “…firing of 120 SM-2 missiles, 80 SM-6 missiles, 160 rounds from destroyers and cruisers’ five-inch main guns, as well as a combined 20 Evolved Sea Sparrow Missiles (ESSM) and SM-3 missiles.” That will take current production capacity years to recoup unless action taken to grown domestic and allied production of these key naval munitions… over to you Congress. https://lnkd.in/eDtYeDMy

🇰🇷🛩️🚀 South Korea has signed a procurement contract for 100 Meteor air-to-air missiles for the forthcoming KF-21 Boramae fighter jets. The deal was reportedly signed with MBDA last week, with supply coinciding with the aircraft’s first production phase. The KF-21’s production commenced earlier this year as an intended replacement for the Republic of Korea Air Force’s aging F-4 and F-5 fleets. ❗️NATO is discussing the possibility of taking under protection the sky over the western regions of Ukraine - BILD The option of extended assistance is supported by: Estonia, Great Britain, Poland, Canada, Lithuania, France. Against - the USA and Germany. There are no final decisions yet. In addition, negotiations are ongoing on several areas at once: ▪️Education. The training of soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by NATO instructors in the territory of western Ukraine is being discussed. ▪️Logistics. According to BILD, a number of NATO countries, in particular Great Britain, Canada and Estonia, are ready to deliver weapons and ammunition not only to the borders of Ukraine, but also to the front line in the future. The concept of "advanced logistics" is currently being developed in several Western countries. ▪️Air defense. The protection of the airspace of Western Ukraine by NATO anti-aircraft systems is also being discussed. In summer 2024, a very special handover took place at the Lower Austrian military training area in Allentsteig. The UK will provide credit support for the Ukrainian military industry worth £2B. The United Kingdom and Ukraine have signed an intergovernmental agreement on official credit support for developing Ukrainian defense capabilities. The agreement will allow the start of Ukrainian-UK projects, including repairs and partial production of air defense systems, armored vehicles, and ammunition. It will also enable UK suppliers to conclude £2B ($2.58B) in credit agreements and contracts with Ukraine. This amount is not final and may be increased with a repayment period of 15 years. Through this collaboration, by 2026 Ukraine's military is expected to be supplied with air defense systems and means of radar location and destruction, obtain technologies, and master the partial production of components for artillery installations and Western armored vehicles. At the same time, the UK, in cooperation with the Sheffield Forgemasters company, will resume the production of artillery barrels for Ukraine. This includes AS-90 155-mm self-propelled artillery installations and L119 105-mm howitzers, which are used currently by Ukraine's military. https://lnkd.in/dnjB6mNb
