💫 Closing the week before the holidays, members of the Integrated Group for Engineering Research (Gii) participated in ‘#Doutoreando’, an event organised by the Campus Industrial de Ferrol (Universidade da Coruña) for the third consecutive year. 🎓✨ Emanuel Fallas, Sergio Martínez Alonso and Javier Ortega Morla presented research in #AutonomousRobotics, while Leandro Alejo Rodríguez Álvarez presented work in #FluidMechanics and the Wind Tunnel, representing the group's commitment to cutting-edge advances in engineering research. 🧪🤖 In addition to touring the campus laboratories, the PhD students shared their thesis projects, providing insights into their research and fostering collaboration with other participating students from Centro de Investigación en Tecnoloxías Navais e Industriais da Universidade da Coruña - CITENI and other research groups from the Campus Industrial de Ferrol (Universidade da Coruña). 🙌 #Douterando is an event that fosters the exchange of knowledge between PhD students, reinforces transfer and collaborations, and promotes interdisciplinary research. El Grupo Integrado de Ingeniería -GII- es un grupo interdisciplinar de investigación aplicada en ingeniería, orientado a la transferencia de conocimiento y a la generación de nuevos productos en el entorno industrial. El GII, desde su creación en 1999, se encuentra ubicado en el Campus de Ferrol de la Universidade da Coruña. Está formado por un conjunto interdisciplinar de profesionales, configurando un equipo estable con gran capacidad y experiencia. Su origen y vinculación a las Escuelas de Ingeniería de esta Universidad motiva un predominio de esta disciplina en el perfil de los técnicos: ingenieros navales, industriales, eléctricos, informáticos, telecomunicaciones, diseño, etc. La actividad del GII se centra en torno a dos ejes estratégicos: La generación de conocimiento científico y la transferencia de tecnología a la industria. La investigación científica se estructura a través de las siguientes líneas: Ingeniería Naval, Dinámica de Fluidos, Inteligencia Computacional, Robótica, Sistemas de Medida y Sensorización y Organización Industrial. Gracias a los más de 200 proyectos de Investigación desarrollados, el GII se ha posicionado como un grupo de referencia en sus ámbitos de actuación, estableciendo colaboraciones estables con organismos relevantes nacionales e internacionales. A través de un adecuado proceso de transferencia, los resultados de esta investigación impulsan el desarrollo de numerosas soluciones tecnológicas en sectores tales como el Naval, Off-Shore, Energía, Servicios Avanzados, Industria o Logística. Lo que permite acumular una dilatada experiencia de colaboración con el entorno empresarial (con más de 100 referencias exitosas) y la generación de un portfolio de productos diferenciados, en los ámbitos de: Ingeniería, Diseño, Seguridad, Fluidos, Robótica, Computación, Medidas y Señales, Producción y Logística.

Utilizando datos de la misión #Gaia de la European Space Agency - ESA y algoritmos de #IA, han catalogado 143 nuevas enanas blancas “metálicas”. Este hallazgo revela restos de planetas que orbitaban estas estrellas antes de ser destruidos al agotarse su combustible. 🌟 Richard Duro at BIP 2024: Shaping the Future of Autonomous Robotics Richard J. Duro, coordinator of the Integrated Group for Engineering Research (#Gii) and senior researcher at the CITIC Centro de Investigacion TIC - Universidade da Coruña (Spain), delivered an inspiring keynote at the 6th IEEE International Conference on Bio-Inspired Processing (BIP 2024). The event was hosted last week by the Universidad Nacional UNA in Liberia, Costa Rica, with the collaboration of leading academic institutions such as Tecnológico de Costa Rica TEC, the Universidad de Costa Rica, and the IEEE Costa Rica Section. 💫 In his talk, “E-MDB: A Motivated Cognitive Architecture for Continuous, Open, and Guided Learning Autonomy,” Richard presented a cutting-edge approach to enhance robotic autonomy and usability. His proposal focuses on creating robots that can adapt to dynamic environments while fulfilling user-defined objectives, bridging technological innovation with human needs. 🚀 🙌 The session also highlighted key challenges for next-generation robotics, including real-time processing, sensory integration, and ethical considerations. As Richard Duro emphasized: "The goal is not only to build more autonomous robots 🤖 but also wiser ones, capable of operating with a foundation of social and ethical knowledge."
