Whangaparaoa Lodge

We stayed a night before a trip and overnight on Tiritiri Matangi. Even before we arrived we felt valued customers as we were call to confirm arrival details. Beautiful room (upgraded from our original booking), spotlessly clean room with many thoughtful touches that went the ‘extra mile’. Owner went out of their way to get us access to plug in our EV (ICE car parked in EV park ☹️). Owner’s also gave us ideas for morning walk and the wonder coffee cart at little Manly from 6am.

Studio room, really good experience! Stayed one night, got the room for about $140 for the night and it was more than worth it. Super comfortable bed and pillows, everything needed in the kitchen (I didn’t need to use it though). Bathroom was simple, all the basics provided that you need. My room was at the back of the property (not facing Ponsonby Road) and was quiet when the windows and sliding door to the balcony was shut. Had aircon. Only semi concern was that I didn’t have a credit card on check in and the paperwork said there would be a $2,000 hold! I queried this (have never encountered such a sum at hotels!) and the woman behind the counter said yes it was correct and to just give my debit card… no charge was made to my debit card. Seemed super excessive! Anyway, overall a great stay and I’ll definitely return. Awesome location.
The Devereux Boutique Hotel

My husband and I booked to stay at The Devereux for two nights. We found the actual condition of the property to be significantly below that shown in the photos, specifically: - Neither the main front door lock nor the room door lock was sturdy; - The base of the mattress in our room was moldy; - There were mold and other stains on the walls, ceilings, and door; - The shower door did not open smoothly; - The toilet flush was also stuck and had to be pressed with force; - The bathroom tap was loose; - There were two loose power sockets that were not properly attached to the wall; - There was a brown liquid leaking out from the base of the kettle when it boiled; - Something in the room/bed area smelled singed, but we were unable to identify what; and - The furnishings and fixtures were generally tired and poorly maintained/cleaned. Other factors not related to the condition of the property but that did contribute to a negative experience were: - The room we were allocated was different from the one noted on our guest details form, and although both rooms were of the same 'class', our room felt like a downgrade; - Keys ostensibly open the allocated room door and the front door only, but I am not convinced this is in fact the case; - We locked our room door when we went to sleep, but it was unlocked when we woke up; - What appeared to be a near-empty perfume bottle left behind by a previous guest was still in the room; - I pulled out a strand of long hair (of a different color from mine) from the blanket on the bed; and - The walls were not soundproof; - There was very limited furniture on which to put things; and - The WiFi did not work. The photos on the hotel's and booking websites appear to be from when the property was newer/freshly restored. Given all of the above, we left after the first night. The receptionist did not bat an eyelid; it appears she is used to guests checking out early and allowing the property to keep the remaining nights' (prepaid) tariff, suggesting this is a common occurrence. There are several articles about The Devereux's descent from its halcyon days, and although these are new articles and not promotional material, TripAdvisor will not approve this review if I include those links. However, they can be found on Google so I would suggest travelers search for and review these articles and form their own view before booking.
Auckland Airport Lodge

No había nadie. .

Well appointed room with kitchen utensils and crockery. The bed was comfortable, room has air conditioning and a great pressure shower. The staff were friendly and helpful. The motel has a pool, spa and sauna although be aware these aren't open on Mondays. The motel rooms are very quiet and away from the busy pace of central Albany. Great location with close proximity to Albany and the motorway
