About us
African Humanitarian Action(AHA) is a striving pan-African international non-governmental organization, launched in response to the Rwandan genocide in 1994. AHA has been providing effective humanitarian relief, recovery, and advocacy services to refugees, internally displaced persons, and local communities across Africa. We reached over 27 million people through healthcare, nutrition, WASH, livelihoods, food security, protection, and shelter programmes in 20 different African countries in the past decades. We work with a wide range of partners to strengthen Africans’ humanitarian response capacity. 🌍 Today at the 12th African Union Annual Humanitarian Symposium in Nairobi, Addis Tesfa Woldemichael, ICVA (International Council of Voluntary Agencies)’s Representative for East and Southern Africa, moderated a panel discussion titled 'Childhood cannot Wait: The Impact of dwindling resources and a case for more predictable financing towards child-responsive humanitarian action'. Our member Misikir Tilahun, Executive Director of (AHA) Africa Humanitarian Action participated in the panel and highlighted innovative ways AHA is addressing funding shortages, including diversifying funding sources and advocating for localisation. 'Local actors are embedded in their communities. We urge donors to implement their localisation commitments under the Grand Bargain'. Misikir also reflected on Africa’s current challenges, pointing out: '... there's waste in government expenditure and private sector activities yet there's also death and destruction on the Continent. There has to be a way to reconcile the two. As resources for humanitarian affairs from traditional donors continue to dwindle, it's high time Africa starts looking for solutions and resources inwards, within the Continent...' #AfHumanitarianSymposium #humanitarianaction ##WorldChildrensDay
