Insurance companies play a crucial role in capital markets as an investor and service provider. As investors, they support in enhancing market liquidity through their investments in diverse securities and as a service provider they support risk management of other investors and businesses by providing a safety net through various insurance products, mitigating risks associated with investments and operations. With the Ethiopian Capital Market becoming a reality, insurance companies will be instrumental in ensuring sustainable and smooth market operations. However, to effectively fulfill their role, these companies must maintain a strong organizational structure and a solid reputation. Currently, in Ethiopia there are 18 insurance companies, one of which is state-owned, while the remaining 17 are private. Together, the 17 private insurers (excluding Ethiopian Insurance Corporation) manage assets totaling approximately ETB 49.1 billion, with each company's contribution to this pool depicted in the image below.
