🎉🌍 Happy Human Rights Day 2024! 🌍🎉 This year’s theme, "Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now," resonates deeply with the mission and values of the Consortium of Ethiopian Human Rights Organizations (CEHRO). As a consortium representing Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) dedicated to Human Rights, Democracy, and Peace-building, we see this theme as a powerful call to act. It highlights the urgent need to protect and uphold human rights today to ensure a just, inclusive, and sustainable future for all. At CEHRO, we work tirelessly to: 🔹 Promote and protect human rights by amplifying the voices of the vulnerable and marginalized. 🔹 Strengthen democratic governance through evidence-based advocacy and policy engagement. 🔹 Foster peace-building efforts to create a harmonious and unified Ethiopia. 🔹 Empower CSOs with the knowledge, tools, and capacity to drive meaningful change in the community. On this Day, we recommit to these values and invite everyone to join us in creating a future where human rights are respected, equality is celebrated, and peace is achieved—right now! #cehroethiopia #HumanRightsDay #humanrightday2024 #humanrights

CEHRO held a Consultative Workshop on the 4th cycle UPR Recommendations to Ethiopia CEHRO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and Freedom House and with the financial support of USAID, held a half-day consultation workshop on the fourth-cycle Universal Periodic Review (UPR) recommendations to Ethiopia on December 09, 2024 at The Hub Hotel, Addis Ababa. CEHRO has been coordinating the Working Group of Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) for Ethiopia’s fourth-cycle UPR and submitted 13 thematic reports addressing civil and political rights, socio-economic rights, and the rights of vulnerable groups, including women, children, internally displaced persons, and people in detention. Today's consultative workshop is a continuation of this effort, focusing on the recommendations made by 114 States at the United Nations Human Rights Council on November 12, 2024, in Geneva. A total of 316 recommendations were given by Member States, and at today’s workshop, relevant actors from the civil society and government bodies had impactful discussions regarding these recommendations before the Ethiopian UPR Inter-ministerial team took a stance on them. #UPR2024 #EthiopiaUPR #MoJ #FreedomHouse

Strengthening Civil Society Engagement for a Transparent and Inclusive National Dialogue in Ethiopia! CEHRO, in partnership with GIZ, is currently implementing an impactful project aimed at regularly tracking and monitoring the Ethiopian national dialogue process. The monitoring exercise is anchored on enhancing CSOs’ engagement in the process through a Community of Practice (CoP) structure that fosters collaboration, learning, and transparency. As part of this initiative, we have successfully established 7 CoP hubs so far in key locations: Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa, Hawassa, Jigjiga, Afar, Assosa, and Gambella. Through these hubs, over 130 grassroots CSOs are now actively involved in monitoring the dialogue, ensuring that voices from diverse stakeholders are heard and represented. In addition to the monitoring, the CoP platform will increase CSOs’ visibility, networking, and collaboration at the local level, enabling them to work together toward a more inclusive and transparent dialogue process. Together, we are building stronger networks for a transparent and inclusive national dialogue in Ethiopia. #CEHRO #EthiopiaNationalDialogue #EthiopiaNationalDialogueCommision #GiZEthiopia
