#MeetTheSME Center for Agroecological Practices and Conservation of Nature (CAPCN CAPCN) is advancing agroecology in Rwanda 🌍 Over 60% of Rwanda’s population depends on agriculture for their livelihood, yet soil degradation costs Africa $68 billion annually in lost productivity. CAPCN is addressing this through agroecology—integrating horticulture, livestock, composting and vermicomposting to regenerate soil and increase yields without synthetic inputs. 🔗Learn more about how CAPCN is empowering local farmers to adopt climate-smart practices ➡️ https://bit.ly/4fZy4WW #CircularEconomy #CircularFoodSystemsRwanda #CircularFoodSystems

📣 New project announcement! 📣 Cities across sub-Saharan Africa urgently need climate resilience and strengthened infrastructure. Through a new initiative, 11 of these cities are leading the charge to achieve both. The Green-Gray Infrastructure Accelerator, led by World Resources Institute and WRI Africa, is working with 11 cities to address climate resilience challenges with nature. These cities will leverage “green” infrastructure like street trees and mangroves with “gray” infrastructure like dams and seawalls. Through this approach, cities can strengthen existing infrastructure systems and enhance natural ecosystems, which will help build climate resilience. 📢 WRI & the World Bank Present Landmark Assessment of Nature-Based Solutions in Africa! In the face of growing climate risks, nature-based solutions have much to offer sub-Saharan Africa to make the region more resilient to climate impacts. They can help reduce the risk of severe flooding, protect communities from extreme heat, and improve water security. Beyond climate resilience benefits, they can create jobs, improve health outcomes, and protect biodiversity. But where are these projects happening? What sort of benefits are communities pursuing? Who’s paying for them? And critically, what needs to happen to scale them across the region? A new report from World Resources Institute and The World Bank via Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) has the answers. The report identified nearly 300 projects from 2012–2023, ranging from small-scale rural restoration to city-wide infrastructure projects. While the number of nature-based projects are growing across the region, there’s more to be done to scale these essential solutions.
