🌍 Participatory budgeting was first implemented in the Brazilian municipality of Porto Alegre in 1989. In November 2024, AR-GO lab Oy presented a next-generation AI-powered cityverse platform, CITYA! at the Smart City Expo in Barcelona 🌆 to make the participatory budgeting process truly inclusive, accessible, and citizen-friendly. Supported by the Interreg Baltic Sea Program 🌊, CITYA! was developed in the close cooperation with Radom, the fourth-largest city in Poland, and is now ready to scale up to other cities and municipalities across Europe. At the Smart City Expo, we secured interest from over 30 cities and municipalities 🏙️. Back to the 🟡#HacktheFuture! 🧑💻Participants noted that it was good to hack not only the future but also experiment and creativity and teamwork, whatever they were trying to integrate to improve public services - from video cameras processed by artificial intelligence to an optimised network of green vehicles on the city's busiest arteries ⚡ The Top 4 challenges by public organizations relate to our daily realities 🔜 We need #AI. Not to replace us, but to simplify the routine work. Bots can help you answer queries faster and more efficiently, and find information already in FAQs or on subpages of websites. 🚴♂️We also seek greener, more sustainable transport and urban traffic management 💬 An interesting fact is that business mentors were more popular than ChatGPT 🦸♀️Mentors not only provided practical knowledge but also motivated us to stay away from cliches. Kudos to those who challenged us to find a truly empathetic connection between public service providers and end-users ✨ 🧠 The inspiration session with Tomas Ramanauskas ignited the creative engines for 24 hours! We expected it to be strong, but that's exactly how interdisciplinary it was, with and without technology - a concentrated creativity flash 🎯Extra miles and efforts. During the event, the Tech-Park Kaunas team connected the forces of facilitators, VR/AR equipment trainers, sponsors, and two moderators who helped us feel the pulse of the hackathon 🪐Practical experiences for students. Technology development and teamwork require a lot of interaction, testing and openness to learning.
