Based in Espoo, Finland, AurinkoLab® organizes engineering hackathons across Finland and the Baltic countries. These events are open to participants aged 15-30, who design and build solar-electric and hydrogen-powered boats or go-karts. The hackathons culminate in a Solar Regatta or Race, where participants showcase their innovative creations. At AurinkoLab®, we're on a mission to: - Empower young individuals with engineering qualifications in hydrogen and solar energy, paving the way for lucrative careers in a sustainable future. - Enhance the skills of seasoned engineers, ensuring they're equipped to meet the demands of Finnish companies and contribute to capacity building. - Foster partnerships with Baltic Countries to drive innovative education initiatives throughout the European Union.

As the year wraps up, I wanted to share a small but meaningful moment from yesterday. I joined the final trial for carts built during a course by AurinkoLab, a wonderful Helsinki-based non-profit that provides short sustainability-focused education programs for kids. The goal of the course wasn’t just to build a cart or boat—it was to teach the kids how to work together as a team. Watching them collaborate, solve problems, and celebrate their progress reminded me how essential teamwork is—not only for young learners but also for the teams and companies of the future. So, as we step into 2025, I hope we all find time not just to chase our goals but also to invest in things that build stronger connections—whether it’s mentoring, community work, or just taking a moment to appreciate teamwork in action. Today my mentee Tatiana Surovtsova invited me to watch a robot 🚗⚡go karts race which was organised by AurinkoLab . The club is opened for ages 8 -18. They build these robbot cars together, then try them out for races. They are also engaged in building solar-powered electric go-karts! 🌍🔧 Kwame Afreh was there with his boys who were very enthusiastic about it & within minutes the boys already knew how to drive these cars. There will be a bigger event especially for English speaking kids & families in spring of 2025. #Register your children. This is extremely Educative & Engaging. 🌟 This amazing initiative was organized with the support of Espoon kaupunki - Esbo stad - City of Espoo , Aalto Design Factory and Megawatt Technology Oy stering creativity and hands-on STEAM education for teens.
