Today, we're launching Dottir Career Chronicles – a series spotlighting the people behind the growth. 🕴🏼Meet Viktor, our newly appointed Senior Associate. Viktor joined Dottir in 2020 as a Legal Trainee, and since then, he has built quite the resume: first a move to our Corporate and M&A practice as a full-fledged lawyer in 2021 and, ever since, advising growth companies and investors - with many well-known financing rounds to his name. Between working on deal pipelines, Viktor finds time to give guest lectures to people from different walks of life, from university students to business professionals. Clients often praise Viktor for his ability to listen and make complex, jargon-heavy legal matters sound like common sense. A colleague put it best: "Viktor radiates positivity and is always up for sparring, mentoring, and helping out. He’s genuinely curious - whether it’s about the startup buzz, colleagues’ updates, or leveling up himself and others. And above all, he’s an über-sympathetic, authentic guy." The impact could be massive - Science magazine estimates that building materials have the potential to store up to half of humanity’s annual CO₂ emissions.   Exciting times ahead for Tapio Vehmas and the Carbonaide team as they pave the way for a more sustainable, climate-positive future in construction!

☕️ Our favorite concept for early morning: Rise, get caffeinated, and learn more about local agreement reforms. Last week, we held our local agreement breakfast seminar, bringing together Finland's leading HR specialists to discuss the new local agreement reform (effective January 2025). The reform gives also non-unionized employers primarily an equal right to negotiate and sign local agreements pursuant to generally binding collective agreements. In addition, the reform enables deviation from certain employment legislation with workplace-specific collective agreements, which agreements can be signed also with local employee associations. Further, the reform broadens the possibilities to make collective agreement based local agreements in case the employees have not elected a shop steward. Sustashift, a Finnish startup revolutionizing CSRD reporting with its software solution, raised a funding round in 2024. Dottir advised the lead investor, Greencode Ventures, throughout the process. Wave Ventures also participated in the round. Sustashift's mission is to provide the most efficient software solution and advisory services for CSRD reporting. Their technology reduces the 500-hour manual tagging process to just 5 seconds. Following exceptional growth in 2024, Sustashift is rapidly scaling to meet the increasing demand for automated, regulatory-compliant sustainability reporting. The funding will be used to accelerate the expansion of its CSRD reporting tool. Greencode Ventures is a pan-European VC firm specializing in the green transition through rapidly scaling digital solutions that drive impact within this decade. 🧭 How will the EU Data Act be implemented in Finland? The EU Data Act is set to reshape data accessibility and management across Europe, and Finland is moving quickly to align with these changes. The Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications has released the draft proposal for the national implementation of the Data Act, and the consultation period ends on January 31, 2025. We've got headline-worthy news this week. After leading us since 2019, our CEO Johanna passes the D torch to Daniel, who’s currently heading Dottir’s Tech & IP team. Daniel is stepping into the CEO's shoes, effective March 1, 2025, bringing the perfect storm of experience both as an attorney and in-house counsel. He's been a key player in our all-star crew since 2018 and a true MVP – our ideal pick to keep our growth chart pointing up while preserving our one-of-a-kind company culture. But first, we want to give kudos to our CEO, Johanna. Since taking the wheel, she has propelled Dottir forward at full speed, achieving a threefold increase in turnover, expertise areas expanding, and recognition pouring in from legal directories and shortlists. Next, Johanna takes the lead as Chair of the Board and Head of the Tech & IP team. In short, these two are known for crushing it out of the ballpark. We’re ready to send it into our next chapter!
