TCMS Product Portfolio for train refurbishment/modernisation projects EKE-Trainnet® is an open, flexible and cost-effective platform capable of integrating all communication and safety enhancing systems on a train. This is particularly important in train modernisation projects where there can be a high number of separate sub-systems to integrate. For TCMS, we have a wide range of EKE-Trainnet products available for your train modernisation projects. Train Communication Networks: Build a new train communication network (TCN) with a train bus, ethernet train backbone, or vehicle bus to replace or support the existing train bus. A new TCN can provide the necessary bandwidth, redundancy, or features to improve the train. When transitioning, it may be possible that the existing cabling can be reused if the bus type remains unchanged, albeit without a bandwidth boost. TCN Gateways: Integrate new systems via a tailored TCN Gateway. The EKE-Trainnet® train computer is modular, allowing the freedom to choose from a wide range of interfaces, including WTB, MVB, CAN, Ethernet, and Serial Links. Event Recorders: To protect critical train-borne information, a rugged or non-rugged event recorder can be integrated into the EKE-Trainnet® system. Vehicle Control Units: Control and monitor new and existing onboard systems. EKE-Trainnet® can exchange commands, diagnostics or any other information with connected onboard systems. Remote I/O Modules: Add appropriate sensors and inputs/outputs for improved control and monitoring. Ethernet Switches: Connect devices to the Train Communication Network, enabling networked devices to communicate with each other. A glimpse of history and today's transformation - Bunkkeri warehouse in Helsinki's West Harbour. This huge building has had a historical significance in our cityscape, but now its time has come.   Bunkkeri - building for which was founded a concrete plant. Designed as a warehouse for the port, the monumental 7-storey Bunkkeri in Jätkäsaari, Helsinki, stood out from its surroundings by its sheer massiveness. At the time, the harbour authorities wanted to build an impressive monument - and they succeeded.   Bertel Ekengren, the founder of the EKE Group, recalls in the spring of 2015: "48 years ago, architect Risto-Veikko Luukkonen came to my office and asked if I could make structural drawings for a seven-storey building with 6-7 thousand square metres on each floor and a concrete frame with a long span. I worked as usual; the next night, I drew the reinforced concrete frame of the building with 4 x 4 modules and 20 x 20 column spacing. Luukkonen, on the other hand, drew the building's 'clothes' - the grand facade with ribbon windows. On the third day, when the project was presented to the port manager, he said: "This will be done".   The warehouse was the size of the Finnish parliament building, about 100,000 cubic metres, and contained 30,000 cubic metres of concrete and 8,500 tonnes of steel. The need for concrete was so great that a temporary concrete plant was set up.   Over time, as the export and import of goods shifted to using containers, the building's original purpose lost its significance. In 2015, the City of Helsinki sought a new use for Bunkkeri through a full-scale competition, but the redesign was finally rejected in 2023. In 2024, the demolition of Bunkkeri began, a clear sign of the ever-evolving landscape and needs of the city.
