Exciting news! Helen has chosen Elomatic and A-Insinöörit as their EPCM partners for the implementation of Europe’s largest electric boiler plant 🌍 The new plant and its associated heat storage units will be built in front of the decommissioned power plant in Hanasaari, Helsinki. Powered by electricity produced without CO₂ emissions, this project marks a significant leap towards a carbon-neutral energy future. "The Hanasaari electric boiler plant is an important step towards climate-friendly energy production. It is a great honor for us to be able to utilize our strong expertise in industrial engineering and energy production design in this uniquely large-scale project," says Karoliina Joensuu, Senior Vice President at Elomatic. Elomatic and A-Insinöörit have been successfully collaborating since 2023, delivering comprehensive solutions for industrial investment projects. Waste heat recovery from plant processes – Elomatic helped Valio save energy with a new heat pump system at the Seinäjoki plant 🌱🏭 Elomatic, in collaboration with Valio, upgraded the plant’s heat pump facility with a heat recovery system, a heat storage tank, and heat pumps. The new, more energy-efficient system aims to achieve annual heating savings of 12–14%. A key factor in optimizing the heat pump facility’s performance was increasing the operational hours of the heat pumps. By analyzing the collected data, it was designed how to optimize both heat recovery and distribution to improve energy efficiency. “It was important for us to find a partner who could, in addition to project implementation, perform the necessary field measurements to refine the sizing of the new system, says Jussi Jääskeläinen, Energy Specialist at Valio. In addition to enhancing energy efficiency, the overall environmental sustainability was improved by replacing the previously used refrigerant with ammonia. Ammonia has a GWP (Global Warming Potential) of zero, meaning it does not contribute to climate change.
