International law enforcement just conducted a massive global cyber raid, shutting down 27 of the world's most popular sites used to carry out Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. Police say these targeted sites can often be a gateway for young people into cyber crime, and that this activity always ramps up as the year ends.   F-Secure's Threat Advisor Joel Latto says it's the peak time of year for all kinds of attacks:    "The holidays are definitely exploited by criminals and scammers looking to wreak financial havoc on their victims or cause general chaos. DDoS is rather entry-level cyber crime, and dismantling these networks can prevent young people from going down that path.   DDoS is just one of many threats rising this month: Shopping scams certainly still continue, and holiday discount campaigns are a prime target for scammers to mimic. Simultaneously, all electricity-related scams are ramping up as winter temperatures drop. These also include fake offers, as well as fake invoices, refunds, and reimbursement scams.
