Today in Finland, we celebrate "Take Your Child to Work Day." We can thank a father from Mikkeli who once brought his son to his metal workshop. Antti Romo's hands-on skills and extensive knowledge stem from working in his father's metal business in Mikkeli, where he began helping at a young age. For Antti, a career in engineering was an obvious choice. For us, hiring this hands-on Master of Mechanical Engineering was an obvious choice 💎 Since the spring of 2024, Antti has been at the forefront of our next major leap: designing and building our test line. "In an effort to reduce emissions, our focus must turn to building materials," emphasises Pekka Kiuru, Green Building Council Finland's Sustainability Competence Steering Group member and Sustainability Director at NCC Suomi Oy. In his excellent prointerior blog, Kiuru highlights that the carbon footprint of energy production has dropped faster than anticipated, increasing the relative impact of building materials on the lifecycle emissions of buildings. Spot on! 🚀 Not many engineers get the chance to design the automation for an entire facility from start to finish—and in a modular way, too! That’s precisely the unique role Heikki Salmi, our new Head of Electrical and Automation Engineering, has taken on. Joining us this October, Heikki has a mission: to create seamless, user-friendly systems that hit that "fantastic feeling" where every machine runs precisely as intended and the interface is so intuitive there's nothing left to improve.
