Foodello - Fiksuruoka.fi is an online store of rescued food
About us
Demand and supply never perfectly match, and that is why there is always too much food produced. Some of the excess food ends up in the trash rather than in a regular grocery store. We, Foodello-Fiksuruoka, were born to fix this. First as one person's garage project, now as a company of over 60 people working Finland, in Belgium and in the Netherlands. Since our founding year in 2016, our mission has been simple: we rescue food from going to waste. Together with our customers and suppliers, we have already saved over 15 million kilograms of good food from going to waste. The amount grows every single day because when surplus items first find their way to us, they next find their way to our customers at a very cheap price. We won't be needed when there is no longer any excess food produced in the world. But until then: join us in our mission in saving food and money. ♻️ www.fiksuruoka.fi www.foodello.com

Why are retro meeting so beneficial to our Product team? Check out their best practices and tips! 🌱👇 💡 Retro meetings are a key part of how we work in agile way, helping us reflect on projects and improve our team dynamics and ways of working. Our Product team keeps it fresh by picking a theme beforehand, making sure each meeting fits what they need at the time. 👋 Meet Liisa-Lotta, our Product Designer who is responsible for how our online store looks and functions, focusing on the user experience. She recently shared how retro meetings work their magic in driving improvements across teams in a knowledge share -session. Here’s how our Product team rolls with retro meetings: ✅ We usually pick a theme in advance. It might cover our team dynamics and workload, well-being, or recent project. ✅ Next, we choose a facilitator. Anyone can step up to guide the session! ✅ Retro meetings are all about reflection and improvement, so it comes down to two main questions: 1) how did we do and 2) what should we do next time? Here are Liisa-Lotta's top 3 tips for nailing retro meetings: 💚 Focus on improving the work methods, not the outcomes: 💬 "Retros are all about fine-tuning the way we work. This meeting is a space for reflection, transparency, improvement, and team building. It doesn't matter whether the project itself was a huge success or not: the idea is to discover where we can still improve as a team." 💚 Create a safe space for sharing: 💬 "It's crucial that everyone can share their thoughts, even the tough ones. It strengthens the team spirit and ensures that we can move forward with ease.” 💚 Get everyone involved and be present: 💬 "It's important to be present and participate actively in the meetings. Hearing everyone’s thoughts and allowing enough space for discussion are the most valuable things you can gain from this." 👉 And the most important thing: repeat, repeat, and repeat. 💬 “While you can benefit from holding even a single retro meeting, the core idea is to iterate and repeat. Having retros on a regular basis ensures the team can try out different things and keep evolving." #AwesomeAsF #FightAgainstFoodWaste #ProductTeam

Meet the #PawsomeAsF furry friends who are fighting against food waste with our team when visiting the Helsinki office! 🐾💚 Here’s how they are contributing to our mission: 🌱 1) Contributing to Procurement team meetings to give hints on what pet goods are good in our store. 🌱 2) Making sure food waste is reduced by offering to enjoy some snacks (by first waiting patiently of course). 🌱 3) Taking the team out to get some fresh air during lunch breaks. 🌱 4) Observing that meetings are not held over time. (Preferably they would like to attend the meetings as well to be even more in charge) 🌱 5) Taking ownership of playtime and making sure our Procurement team gets some movement during meetings with suppliers. 🌱 6) Leading by example on how to unwind during work days as well. 🌱 7) Offering comfort and cuteness during meetings. 🌱 8) Embracing the testing culture by altering work spots at the office. At the moment, data shows that the couch in the kitchen is the comfiest spot. (Further data to be confirmed after Q4.) Have you ever wondered how our Procurement Managers, like Dean, help suppliers turn potential waste into opportunity? 🌿 Dean's strategy is simple: treat suppliers as partners, not just transactions. 💬 "By treating suppliers as partners, we create long-lasting relationships that benefit both sides," Dean explains. This collaborative mindset is crucial to our shared goal of fighting against waste. 🍏 One story from Dean’s two years with us involves an apple supplier caught in a bind after a hailstorm left their apples cosmetically damaged but perfectly edible. While regular supermarkets couldn’t take them, Dean saw an opportunity. 💬 "We helped the supplier by purchasing multiple batches of the apples," Dean shares. These apples became a hit with our customers, providing a healthy, affordable option and saving them from going to waste. Dean stresses the power of clear communication and frequent check-ins with suppliers. 💬 "It's always best to have clear communication with your supplier and set expectations from the beginning," he notes. By staying in touch and being flexible, he ensures that everyone benefits, creating a win-win situation. Here are Dean's 4 top tips for building successful supplier relationships: 💚 Treat suppliers like partners to foster long-term connections. 💚 Communicate frequently to stay updated and aligned. 💚 Look for shared values to ensure mutual goals. 💚 Set clear expectations and be adaptable to achieve the best results. #AwesomeAsF #ProcurementManager

Did you know that we have “sharing is caring” sessions among our team leads on a regular basis? 💚 These sessions are a place for team leads to share their experiences and feelings about being a team lead. It’s an opportunity to learn from each other, improve common processes, and get ideas on how to improve their own leadership approach! 👉 Usually, a topic is chosen in advance for a session. It can be anything from creating OKRs or how to give more ownership to team members. We asked Head of Customer Service Karlijn Batstra what she thinks about these sessions: 💬 “It is nice to talk with colleagues in a relaxed atmosphere about work-related topics. You often unconsciously run into the same things, and because of that, you can find recognition but then also learn from how other team leads tackle and handle certain things. You can learn more from each other than you think in advance.” Because team leads need support too. 💚 #AwesomeAsF #TeamLead #Leadership

This means being there for my loved ones and taking care of myself. She’s been with us since 2021, making sure our online store is always stocked with accurate, well-presented products to make fighting against food waste as enjoyable as possible. 🤗📦 💬 “When I joined Foodello-Fiksuruoka I loved the idea of joining a smaller company, because I could learn about different areas of the business. Plus, I studied marketing and food-related behavior, which is all about societal food consumption, so this really felt like the right place for me." As part of the Procurement team in Finland, Kaisa ensures that when products are purchased, their product data is showcased perfectly and accurately in our store, meeting all legal requirements.
