Hycamite produces low-carbon hydrogen and high-quality carbon products by splitting methane.
About us
Hycamite produces clean hydrogen and industrial-quality solid carbon by splitting methane using proprietary zero-emission technology. It is based on the thermo-catalytic decomposition (TCD) of methane molecules — in other words, we break the methane with our catalyst and heat. The novel methane pyrolysis technology requires only 13% of the energy needed to produce hydrogen using electrolysis. Hycamite’s technology enables the production of low-carbon or even carbon-negative hydrogen. Hydrogen can be produced from biomethane, methane from natural gas, or synthetic methane. As a cutting-edge carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) technology, Hycamite’s solution enables the creation of carbon sinks, providing clients with industrial-quality carbon fit for demanding applications, such as Li-ion batteries, composite materials and filter purifiers. Hycamite’s production is environmentally friendly. There are no emissions into the atmosphere and the catalysts used are sustainable. Hycamite is a privately owned company headquartered in Kokkola, Finland.

Unlike land vehicles, vessels have longer lifespans, making it harder to adopt newer, cleaner technology quickly. Innovation must be adaptable for these long-standing fleets. Read our Marine Business Development Director, Tommi Viiperi's thoughts on the topic in the article below.

I had the privilege of giving a GRIDTech Talk at the #GRIDTech2024 in Brussels. Kind thanks to all the participants and presenters, it was really a great, warm event with good discussions. I could write a lot about all the possible aspects that I started to think about after the event, but perhaps I focus on technology neutrality. This was raised in practically all the sessions and for example in the opening remarks. Yet, it looks like we lack an understanding of how renewable hydrogen can benefit from low-carbon hydrogen and how this should be taken into account when planning for future hydrogen-based energy systems. We also need to change our thinking based on the colors, where "green" is always better than "others". Instead, we should talk about the numbers, like CO2 emissions based on life-cycle assessments. Where the emissions of "green" are really low while using only, say, wind energy, the operations during "dunkelflaute" require supplemental power to be used. Eventually, this will raise the emissions of the electrolysis hydrogen closer to the limit stated in the regulation, 3.4 kgCO2e/kgH2. On the other hand, the hydrogen produced by Hycamite has less emissions than 1 kgCO2e/kgH2. In some cases, we have reached even below 0.2 in our site evaluations. Low-carbon hydrogen can really be worth its name.
On December 2, I will have the pleasure to moderate the GRIDTech event. The event is organised by Eurogas and GIE with technical partnership of ENTSOG. It starts at 2:30pm and finishes at 6:30pm, and takes place in Brussels (Stanhope Hotel). We will have the pleasure to listen to the keynote speech of Prof. Dr. Andrea Wechsler, Member of ITRE Committee of the European Parliament There will be three panels on 1) Repurposing for H2 in practice: technical basis and transparent principles With David Gil, Subject Manager, Interoperability & Data Exchange at ENTSOG; Daniel Fraile, Chief Policy Officer at Hydrogen Europe and Joost Hooghiem, Director of Hydrogen Network Netherlands at Gasunie 2) What role for gas infrastructure in a successful industrial carbon management strategy & climate transition? With Arno Büx, President of GIE, CEO of FluxSwiss Sagl, SVP Corporate Commercial at Fluxys Group; Magdalena Vallebona, Climate & Energy Director at Cerame-Unie and Michał Wendołowski, Senior Manager of Climate Technology and Policy at Bellona Europa 3) How can flexibility support competitiveness in a decarbonized energy system? With Joaquim Nunes de Almeida, Director of Mobility & Energy Intensive Industries at DG GROW (European Commission); Charlotte Roule 夏澜, President of Gas Storage Europe (GSE), CEO of Storengy; Jeroen Sanders, Member of the Executive Board and Chief Transition Officer at Enexis and Annika Brack, Director and Head of Practice, Energy, Mobility and Sustainability at CERRE Three GRIDTech Talks * Christoph von dem Bussche on the German Core Hydrogen Grid * Luis Ignacio PARADA on Securing & Greening Energy for Europe – The Role of a Terminal Operator * Matti Malkamäki on the BotH2nia project Finally, Boyana Achovski, Secretary General of GIE, Piotr Kus, General Director of ENTSOG and Andreas Guth, Secretary General of Eurogas will deliver their concluding remarks. #gas #gasgrids #hydrogen #flexibility #competitiveness #biomethane #decarbonisation Center on Global Energy Policy Robert Johnston Lyubomira Efremova Antoine Hoxha François-Régis Mouton Andrei Covatariu Christelle Verstraeten Axel Scheuer Miguel Gil Tertre Luca Franza Pau Ruiz Guix Olivier De Block Daria Nochevnik Anne Houtman Dan A. Today Gasgrid published the news about them building a #hydrogen network in Finland - the construction is about to start in 2027. I wasn't able to make it to the main event, but got interviewed at our industrial-scale demonstration facility by the national TV channel, MTV Oy. My takes are simple; low carbon hydrogen is good for decarbonizing the industry and this is where we should focus! The infrastructure on the other hand is needed to make the hydrogen ecosystem become real. I am so proud to be able to be part of this development! Kind thanks to everyone in the same news clip; Sara Kärki, Olli Sipilä, Antti Arasto, and Jonne Sandberg. Hycamite, BotH2nia
