Last week ended with Digital Learning Development Day! 🎉 I stopped by to meet our amazing Finnish Moomin Language School team – thank you Leena Viljamaa (Kokko-Marjanen), Juha Telkkinen, and Pekka Lehtonen for the relaxed and inspiring event. 🙌 I also spotted some familiar faces, like Kaisa Honkonen, Kaapo Korhonen, and Juha Merinen. 😊 The keynote speakers were futurist and author Perttu Pölönen, with whom I shared thoughts on the importance of language skills and multilingualism for children’s futures 🌍, and neuroscientist Katri Saarikivi who completely captivated me with her presentation "How to Live Like a Human in a World of Artificial Intelligence." An hour and a half just flew by! 🧠⏳ 💡 I’d like to share a few insights from Katri’s talk: Virtual meetings are mentally more taxing than face-to-face ones – turn on your camera, as it helps create a relaxed atmosphere and increases presence! 🎥 Try Microsoft Teams' "Together Mode" – it can reduce cognitive load and foster connection. 🤝 Let’s focus on skills that AI cannot replicate – such as reasoning and empathy. 💡❤️ Support well-being, learning, and empathy 🌱 Empathy is nurtured by: emotion, familiarity, and synchronization. ✨ 💬 As a mother, I couldn’t resist asking Katri what message she would give to young people. Her short and to-the-point advice: "Learn to think your own thoughts!" This reminds us of an important truth – screen time isn’t the main issue, but rather what we do with technology and social media. Are we active or passive? Do we just consume content created by others, or do we create something meaningful ourselves? 💻✨ Finally, a valuable tip from Katri: Give yourself the gift of focus! 🎁 I immediately applied this on my way home by skipping the usual podcast I’d listen to as a "productive" person and instead simply focused on being present, enjoying the journey, and observing the people around me. #Inspiration #FutureSkills #DigitalLearning #Empathy #ArtificialIntelligence #Multilingualism #FocusIsAGift #MoominLanguageSchool

Six weeks ago, I started using the Moomin Language School app with my 2-year-old son. He’s younger than the target age, but I wanted to give it a try because he’s so interested in language right now 🌟. It's amazing how much English vocabulary he's picked up 🇬🇧 (his mother tongue is Finnish 🇫🇮), and how his motor skills have developed in such a short time 🙌.
