Happy 🌍✨ World Sustainable Transport Day - November 26, 2024! 🚴♀️🚌  In the face of a climate emergency, sustainable travel solutions are more vital than ever.  Imagine this: seamlessly hopping off an express train and boarding an electric bus on dedicated lanes, passing through modern, well-equipped stations—all with a single ticket.  This vision of smooth, integrated transport will be a reality in #Dakar, Senegal, thanks to the Urban and Municipal Development Fund (UMDF), a trust fund hosted by African Development Bank Group. As a proud partner of UMDF, we have provided EUR 10 million in grant financing to improve liveability, #ClimateResilience and better manage urban growth in cities in #Africa. In Dakar, UMDF has been funding technical studies to upgrade bus routes, depots, and stations – aiming to serve with over 560 electric buses. But it is not just about making the public transport facilities electric. With a focus on flood resilience, as part of critical climate #mitigation and #adaptation measures, the infrastructure will also aim at minimising vulnerabilities to climate risks. #EarlyWarnings save lives, and early action saves livelihoods, businesses and economies from climate-related hazards. ⛈️ Our Managing Director Satu Santala spoke today in the event hosted by the World Meteorological Organization about the importance of scaling up climate finance for early warnings. 🌬️ 🌪️ ”We need to speed up and scale up early warning systems, especially in the low-income countries. We need to invest in better weather data for everyone, because additional data means nothing if it doesn't reach people. Today, we had an inspiring event at #COP29 in Baku, gathering climate finance actors to discuss the critical importance of directing catalytic finance towards transformative climate initiatives. 🌱 It’s not only about the quantity of #ClimateFinance, but also about the quality. The public and private sectors need to work together and build bridges to channel capital to reach the communities who need it the most. We need #partnerships and #collaboration to tackle the #ClimateCrisis. 🤝 Today at #COP29 in Baku, we announce our membership to IMCA, the Investment Mobilisation Alliance, hosted by the World Climate Foundation. We join this alliance among other Nordics to jointly mobilise #ClimateFinance in emerging economies at speed and scale. ”We have to act fast, and we need to mobilise more. As collaboration is in our DNA, we are proud to join the IMCA alliance.
