"I work as a researcher in Orion's immuno-oncology unit. We are searching for target proteins that regulate the immune system, aiming to develop new immuno-oncological cancer therapies. Our team consists of people from diverse backgrounds. I get to learn a tremendous amount from them. Three best aspects at Orion: 💎 Benefit for cancer patients. I can make a difference with my work. The aim is always to find a medicine that helps cancer patients. 💎 Learning new things. We have so many employees from different cultures and with different skills that I learn something new every day. 💎 Testing hypotheses in the laboratory. I cannot rely purely on the fact that if something is published on a subject it is true. I have to see what results I get from different experiments." At Orion, we’re researching and developing new and increasingly effective immunological cancer treatments so that more patients can receive effective cancer therapies. 🔬 But what does immunological cancer treatment mean, Orion's Senior Scientist Reetta Virtakoivu? "With immunotherapy the aim is to destroy the tumour by activating the body’s own immune system. In the past, treatments have focused on specific drugs that directly attack the cancerous tumour." What types of cancer is immunotherapy most suitable for? "Immunotherapy is most effective for cancers such as metastatic melanoma, lung, bladder, and kidney cancers, as well as cancers of the head and neck. It is a new treatment option alongside surgery, chemotherapy, hormone therapy and radiotherapy." What are the advantages of immunotherapy over traditional cancer treatments? "Immunotherapy has been used to treat patients whose cancer is resistant to traditional cancer treatments. Immunological cancer therapies also have fewer side effects than, for example, cytostatic treatments. However, they are not a magic cure that works for everyone. But I believe that in the future more and more cancer patients will receive and benefit from immunological cancer treatments." #immunotherapy #ImmunologicalCancerTreatment #Orion

I am honored to have been appointed as the new Chairman of the Board of the Kemianteollisuus - Chemical Industry Federation of Finland. The chemical industry is Finland's second largest export sector, and it plays a significant role in ensuring the country’s well-being and success. On the other hand, the industry will become an even more important export sector for Finland in the future. Several current development trends, such as the green transition, provide a solid foundation for the chemical industry's growth. As we know, achieving growth always requires close collaboration among various stakeholders. I am excited to work with the industry's leading players to identify and seize opportunities for global expansion.  Read more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dMfzSD2d

Immunological cancer treatment, immunotherapy – what is it? 🤔 Immunological cancer therapy aims to activate the body's own defence system to fight cancer. In this process, human defence cells recognise the cancerous tumour and attack the cancer cells. Immunotherapy has revolutionised cancer treatment by making it possible to treat patients whose cancer is resistant to traditional treatments. However, there is still much to be done in cancer research, as immunological cancer treatments are not a magic cure for everyone. Immunotherapy helps 10–20 per cent of patients. Read our article to find out which types of cancer respond best to immunotherapy and what the future holds for immunological cancer treatment. 👉 https://lnkd.in/dvQD8s6a #immunotherapy #ImmunologicalCancerTreatment #Orion

Global crises and a tightened economic situation are challenging an increasing number of families around the world. Therefore, it is especially important to support children and young people in these difficult circumstances. We began our collaboration with Pelastakaa Lapset ry - Save the Children Finland at the beginning of this year. With the funds Orion has donated, Save the Children provides support to children and young people in need in Finland, as well as to children and their families in conflict-affected Sudan. During this year's Child Rights Week, we would like to thank the organisation for its important work with children that we at Orion are proud to support.
