🌳 Forest gardens gain ground across Europe, promoting biodiversity and bringing people together. 🇧🇪 La prairie d’Hedwidge, a community-owned space located in Dilbeek, on the outskirts of Brussels, has thrived since 2010. A dedicated group of volunteers has rewilded these fields by planting over 140 species of fruit and nut trees, vines, 🫐 berry shrubs, and aromatic plants. This space fosters meaningful cooperation, as 👨🌾 volunteers who take care of the field have access to a vegetable patch once a month to grow their own food. 🍃 Based on a design by Anna Luz Pueyo, the volunteers plan to set up the Station, a prototype workshop powered by renewable forms of energy. The Station will offer a central point where people can transform seasonal harvests into 🍅 food, colours, and materials, exploring the full potential of the surrounding plants. It will serve as a hub 🙋for social interaction, where guests can follow workshops and exchange knowledge on the seasonal transformation of the harvest. 🇪🇺 The New European Bauhaus helps bring the Station concept to life by awarding it as a 🏆 Runner-up of the 2024 NEB Prizes for supporting life-cycle thinking through its inspiring, modular design, which can be replicated easily and made available to any local community.
