A new digital era makes the economy and public safety increasingly dependent on secure and resilient connectivity worldwide. Already today, satellites have capabilities beyond bridging the digital divide, as they can and should support democratic activity, security, and sovereignty in decision-making. Within this landscape, owning a satellite is no longer a luxury; it is a necessity. Read ReOrbit's article to find answers to some of the most pressing questions: who should own non-terrestrial networks❓ whose interests should they serve ❓ who gets to decide how they are used ❓ https://lnkd.in/gPMr2TPJ #sovereignty #data #resilience #security #NewSpace #Satellites

The world is experiencing significant political upheavals that have reshaped our understanding of what is needed to ensure secure and resilient operations. In this landscape, cyber and outer space cannot be underestimated, as they play a central role in defence and security. Therefore, SecD-Day — a conference and exhibition organised by PIA - Finnish Defence and Aerospace Industries — is a highly important event, and ReOrbit is honoured to take an active part in it, promoting the role of space in defence. Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Antti Häkkänen, Minister of Defence of Finland, to our booth. At ReOrbit, we are committed to delivering certainty in an uncertain world by building software-enabled satellites for secure communications. “Even though I worked as a mere systems engineer for sun sensors onboard the satellite, the feeling of contributing to the mission and having components you've worked on, actually flying in space, is an incredible feeling. It motivates me to keep working harder for the missions to come,” says Shriya Hazra, Guidance, Navigation, and Control Engineer at ReOrbit. Shriya relocated to Helsinki from the Netherlands to pursue her dream role in the space industry, but her passion for this field began at a young age with videos exploring mysteries and phenomena such as singularities and dark matter. This fascination has only grown over time. Read on: https://lnkd.in/dyiYpkCg

Last week, ReOrbit organised a hackathon along with ESA BIC Finland, Kuva Space and Aurora Propulsion Technologies as part of the first Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) Nordic-Baltic event hosted in Finland. This event brought together 90 talented young professionals and graduate students to collaborate, learn, and tackle exciting real-world challenges in space. ReOrbit invited the participants to explore and conceptualise innovative digital twin dashboards that could enhance satellite operations across various stages. We witnessed an inspiring amount of passion, creativity, and teamwork among the participants of ReOrbit's challenge. A big thank you goes to our challenge participants and the organisers at the SGAC for creating the space to connect and empower the next generation of space innovators. ReOrbit plays an important role in the global space ecosystem by providing various opportunities to join the sector: https://lnkd.in/g22N9FR5 Here’s what some of the participants shared about the challenge: (Photo credit: SGAC)

#HotOffThePress Finland joins the Artemis Accords! Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman signed the Artemis Accords on behalf of Finland in Otaniemi, Espoo on 21 January 2025. 53 countries have now joined the NASA led commitment to carry out space exploration efforts for peaceful purposes. “Finland has been part of the space exploration community for decades with Finnish companies and research institutes producing many innovations and technologies. With the Artemis Accords, we will strengthen our partnership with the United States and other allies. Our aim is that the cooperation will open up opportunities for the Finnish space sector in the new era of space exploration and the Artemis Program,” Rydman says. Here at ReOrbit, we firmly believe that those countries, that recognise the socio-economic benefits stemming from investing in the space sector, bring new ideas and perspectives, create jobs, drive innovation and technological advancement. Finland, rapidly becoming a spacefaring nation, leads by example. Read our full analysis here: https://lnkd.in/dpTfH3bq

🇫🇮Today, the 7th Winter Satellite Workshop officially opened in Espoo, Finland. However, our eventful week began yesterday with the inaugural Space Generation Advisory Council Nordic-Baltic event. The event aimed to bring together young professionals from across the Nordic-Baltic region, fostering connections and providing valuable insights into the space sector. Through keynotes, panel discussions, and hackathons, participants explored new opportunities for collaboration and innovation. Our very own Pekka Salonen, VP of Engineering at ReOrbit, joined a panel discussion alongside Tiina Nurmi, Saimoon Quazi and Alexander Kinnaird on the topic of innovation, talent, and growth in the Nordic-Baltic space. Here’s to building the foundations for future generations to thrive in the industry, with Finland serving as the launchpad for the New Space era!
