Great to see Sensible 4 being part of Greater Zurich region becoming a hot spot for EV and autonomous driving!
Is Greater Zurich becoming a hotspot for EV & autonomous driving? 🚗 In November, we had the pleasure of hosting the Chinese Business Network event focused on #EV and #AutonomousMobility. The event featured presentations from industry experts from Switzerland and China, showcasing collaboration opportunities, cutting-edge developments, and future trends. 💡 Based on these insights, we’ve created a new factsheet highlighting what makes the #GreaterZurichArea a hub for new forms of mobility. Here are the key takeaways: - Supportive regulation for EV adoption and autonomous driving. - Strategic access to European markets and customers. - Strong collaboration between academia, industry, and authorities. - Pilot projects offering ideal conditions for real-world autonomous vehicle testing. 🔔 On a side note, the Federal Council has just adopted a decree allowing self-driving cars on Swiss motorways from March 2025, along with automated parking and driverless vehicles on designated routes. 📩 Discover why Greater Zurich is the perfect base for advancements in #ElectricVehicles and #AutonomousDriving. Download the factsheet here: https://lnkd.in/dNrvH-mb. 🎥 Check out impressions from the event here: https://lnkd.in/eKdud2py 🙏 A big thank you to all our speakers and everyone who attended the event—your contributions made it a great success! Thank you Richard Levy for highlighting the success with Swiss Transit Lab utilizing Sensible 4 technology and running such an impressive pilot seamlessly and smoothly. Future is bright and Finland will continue to be the land of innovation and pushing forward!
All good things must come to an end, amd so it is with the Swiss Transit Lab 'line 13' autonomous vehicle project. As part of my interim work with finish tech start-up Sensible 4, I supported the acquisition and implementation. After the insolvency of the software provider, Syntbit picked up the support to continue the project. Some conclusions. 1. Development for level 4 is not scalable. The optimal solution is development for level 5 and deployment in a level 4 environment. This allows cost effective deployment and maximum safety. 2. Use of an street legal vehicle is a great way for a startup to build a demonstration platform without facing reliability and service issues. 3. Investing in pre-revenue start-ups is expensive and risky. 4. Finland is undervalued as a location to source great engineers and Schaffhausen – area for makers is a great location to work with great people, located in an area where people politicians have a good knowledge and an eye for safety. Patrick Schenk, Andreas Kaiser - Innovation is Key, Dirk Apel, Thomas Haiz, Matthias Rödter, Swiss Transit Lab many thanks for the opportunity. it was a joy and an honour to have worked with you on this project.

🔍 Exploring #publicacceptance of automated minibuses in Schaffhausen Swiss Transit Lab, a proud member of SAAM, has recently conducted a study on the acceptance of automated minibuses along STL Line 13 in #Schaffhausen. This project has attracted significant attention and played an important role in progressing the conversation around autonomous transportation technologies within the country. Key findings indicate that safety is paramount, yet familiarity enhances public acceptance. 🚌💡 Once passengers take a ride, their acceptance of automated transport increases. Despite these positive trends, the study also underscores a challenge: boosting public awareness about these innovative pilot projects. 🎉 Congratulations to the Swiss Transit Lab team for their efforts and contributions! Sebastian Löw and Christine Mauelshagen 📄 For those interested in more details, you can read the full report in German here: https://lnkd.in/eBswZHPw 🤔 We're eager to hear your thoughts: Would you feel comfortable taking a ride on an automated minibus if it promised a safer and smoother journey? Thank you Dr. Ruben Strenzke for underscoring the critical nuances of safety in autonomous vehicle technology. Your proactive approach and deep dive into safety engineering, especially in addressing edge cases, are crucial. It's inspiring to see the level of safety Sensible 4 aimed for, adapting frameworks like ISO 26262 alongside UL 4600 and ISO 21448 to enhance real-world application safety standards. The interplay between functional safety and SOTIF highlighted is essential for advancing AVs on public roads. We believe many could benefit from such comprehensive safety culture and training program. These discussions are vital for the continuous evolution of safety in autonomous technologies. #AVsafety#Automotive#Autonomoustechnology#Sensible4#Case
A single incident can mean the end for such ventures - we have seen it with Uber ATG before, and now with Cruise. And their specific San Francisco incident was avoidable in my view. Dragging of pedestrians is a hazardous event that I pointed out often enough years ago already, and people who worked with me know that. One of my former employers even allowed me to work hands-on (incl. field testing) on this and related topics. To the dear reader who bears responsibility for the safety of your AVs, reach out to me if you want to get your AV requirements and HARA, etc. up to a bulletproof level. Waterproof level is not enough. I am betting something like "waterproof" level is what Cruise safety team assured to their management they reached. I made up these levels just to show you, there is always a higher level, when it is about public-road edge cases. Contact me, if you are clueless how to reach the next level. It is about safety thinking, safety culture, engineer qualification, specific software tools, and doing Systems and Safety Engineering right from the concept phase on. Which training talks about these topics in the context of on-road AVs? Mine does, and you would surprise me if you find any other on the market. Check https://case.pa for more info. And not all in Safety Engineering is about "classic" FuSa and ASILs - it's a lot about defining functions, functional goals, and SOTIF edge-cases as well. Even FuSa needs to be approached differently for AVs. If your safety discussions are mostly about ASILs, and you're not a subsystem or component supplier, then this would not be a good sign. Does your safety team have experience taking a vehicle fully driverless? I am in the process of doing that with my current main customer. Is your safety team competent in all of UL 4600, ISO 26262 and ISO 21448? Even if you don't plan to fully comply with any of them, these standards need to be understood for a solid Safety Engineering fundament in my view. And then there are specific necessities for the public-road ODD that no current or in-progress standard talks about sufficiently. Traffic law compliance is only one of those topics, and yes, you can argue, that's because it is country-specific. There are more, and I am not sure why the industry shrouds itself in mystery, when it comes to them, as they are not country-specific. Initial discussions for you to gauge which value I can add are free, and you don't need to disclose any confidential info for that to happen.
